Little back story. I live in a senior apartment complex. My wife is the manager. She's 31 and I'm 35. We live here rent free and utility free (just bragging, don't hate ) This is by far the quietest place I've ever lived. I'm old at heart so I love it. Most of the old people just keep to themselves and we've never had an issue. Back about a month ago when I first brought my bug home an old lady said she liked it and that her late husband had one. I make the usual "oh that's cool" small talk and move along. She always says hi to me when she sees me, she's super nice. Well today I'm out working on my car changing the O ring on my distributor. She's walking past and starts telling me how her husband had one and I look just like him when I'm working on my car. She said they used to live in Pennsylvania and when it got below freezing nobody's car on their street would start except for her husbands bug. She goes on to say that whenever she sees me working on my car through her window it reminds her of George, her late husband, and that he acted just like I do with his bug. That it was his pride and joy. I felt like giving her a hug. It made me feel great inside that my little beetle can bring up such amazing memories for this old lady. That the simple sight of me turning a wrench in my parking spot can take her back to a happy time when her husband was still alive and they were enjoying their car. I have never had a car bring such joy and emotion to people as this one has and I've owned probably 40 cars in the past 15 years. Just hearing her story and watching her face light up when telling it was well worth the price I paid for this car. _________________ 2015 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition

VW's certainly strike a cord in people who've owned them "back in the day" or grew up with them in the family.
99% of the time, I enjoy listening and chatting with someone who's come up to me at the gas station or store to ask questions or share stories. There are those days though when I'm in a hurry to complete my errands. It's always the day you get extra hammered everywhere you stop with folks wanting to chat about the VW.. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

You certainly are! Whenever I read one of your posts, I always imagined a guy in his 50s, at least. Not that 50ish is old. I wish I were, again. _________________ Everything known to man has been written.

Why not offer her a ride? Maybe you and your wife could take her out for coffee one day? You all may enjoy the company. _________________ Brian

Heartwarming story. Old folks can be very interesting when we give them the respect and attention they deserve.
Big medias have failed their job of making us all suspicious/scared of everybody... There are still plenty of decent people left out there and everyday there are an infinity of small things like a young man taking the time to think about a old lady's feelings. That, amongst other things somehow makes the world a better place. I tip my hat to you.
Oh and Q-dog is right, you guys should definitely take her out for a coffe, you'll probably make her year!! |

if you are fortunate enough one day it will be your turn to be the old guy.... take her for a spin to the coffee shop...
Ive always respected old people, don't see much of that anymore in today's generation but I agree there are many good folks in the world if we take off the blinders to see it.. _________________ BUS WANTED: 13 window BUS any year considered.. |
