The Arizona Bus Club (ABC) is presently seeking the next Jerome Jamboree Raffle Bus. Yes, this is the crazy VW bus club that finds a 1967 or older split window bus then restores and/or resurrects it and raffles it off at our big event every September called the "Jerome Jamboree" for $.50 a ticket! We then take proceeds from the ticket sales and give to Arizona based charity organizations. The ABC is also a registered 501-(c)-3 public charity...which means we are basically a church for VW bus fanatics (Gotta love 'Merica!) Yes, anyone can join the club and receive our critically acclaimed monthly newsletter for only $20/year. Vist our webite for details: www.azbusclub.org
We can also offer tax deductions for the value of every donation that we receive.

Many faithful air cooled VW vendors, VW community members, TheSamba.com members and other area VW clubs donate parts, labor, accessories and cash for the effort every year as well. The ABC restoration crew volunteers donate many many hours of time plus blood sweat and tears just to see another beautiful VW bus hit the road which offers the opportunity for a lucky ticket holder to drive home in a very nice split window VW bus. The $.50/ea tickets are sold only at the 4-day event and you MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN! This significantly increases the odds of winning a VW bus.

The ABC has raffled off 23 split window buses in the past 25-years. Some buses were donated to the cause as was the case for last years bus (a 1959 VW Panel bus "Firetruck") and other times we've paid for them. We all know that our beloved split window buses are becoming very valuable and thus harder for us to acquire. This year the ABC has pledges for a significant amount of funds to purchase this years bus and we have high hopes of finding a really decent specimen to become the 2016 Jerome Jamboree Raffle Bus. We are now seeking a fairly solid bus in as complete as possible condition that can be purchased for up to $10,000.

Do you have or know of a potential raffle bus candidate for the ABC? Is there a project you've been sitting on and might not ever get to? Would you like to sell your dust collecting bus at a fair or below market price and be guaranteed a chance to win it back for $.50? Have you been hoarding buses for a couple decades and want to donate one to warm your heart and ours? Well...here is your chance to help our efforts and recharge your karma!

Please contact one of the ABC Raffle Bus Hunting Crew today!

We are really hoping to find a raffle bus project before the end of the year so we have plenty of time to work on it. The club has only had a couple of buses offered to us and we are leaning toward a fairly solid 62 panel unless something more enticing comes along in the next couple of weeks.

If you have or know of a good raffle bus candidate please let us know ASAP!
Hopefully we will have a bus and some pictures to grace this thread soon and let all you sambians follow along on the build vicariously or...you could always come to Phoenix and lend a hand Smile

Well folks…Thanks to Robert Skinner at Skinner Classics VW Restorations…we have our 2016 raffle bus!

This fine specimen of German engineering is a 1962 Double Door Panel (DDP) built in May of 1962! Of course it needs a bunch of parts and work and we will be getting started on restoring it very soon…Only 235-days until Jerome Jamboree XXVI where one lucky winner will get to drive this 62 DDP home! If you were at the Buses by the Bridge in Lake Havasu, AZ in January 2016 you got to see this bus in person. If the club's pledged budget and generous donations allow…we will have this bus looking shinny and new and if all goes well we plan to have this bus completed and on display in early June at the OCTO/Blackstar/Prado weekend for your chance to lick the handles Smile

This bus has some of the typical rusty panels we need to replace and unfortunately has been stripped of nearly everything but the carcass itself. The AZ Bus Club is seeking donations to get this beast restored so you're help is greatly appreciated. We have a short list of used parts that we need so let us know if you want to help us and help your bus karma at the same time.

Also, if you or someone you know is the person who swiped the M-code plate and metal tag from the engine firewall while it sat in a junkyard in eastern Washington state…please honor this bus and return them to their rightful home. The bus godz will smile down upon you!

Needed Items:
Front seat frames
Ignition switch with key
Outer cargo door handles
Wiper assembly
Wiper switch
Headlight switch
Dome light switch
Fuel Gauge
Speedo
Shifter
Rear hatch T handle
Parcel Tray (Fat lip)
Fuse block
Set of 15" bus rims
Plus anything that appears to be missing in the photos below...

Only 158 days until some lucky bus lover drives this bus home! The AZ Bus Club has been thrashing nearly every weekend lately and it's time for an update! After only 12 work parties we've gotten quite a bit done and the outpouring of donations to help our efforts has also been rolling in.

Huge thanks to Rich & Tony at Wolfsburg West for contributing most of the replacement metal we needed and pledging support for many of the finish items as well. These guys are at the top of their game and are helping our hobby thrive with the quality parts they reproduce and source. If you need anything for your bus we suggest you call WW first!

We've also had several new and veteran members of the ABC scrounge through their garages and offer up much of the used items on our list too. There is certainly a beautiful collection of VW souls in this club and we are humbled by the enthusiasm surrounding this old rusty hulk.

Enough chatter...everyone wants to see pictures!

Pile O parts from Wolfsburg West and they are mighty fine!

We've had several folks donate a ton of stuff for the bus already and the enthusiasm that surrounds this project is incredible! Meanwhile, we are getting requests if there is anything we need...well, yes...there are still a few used items we need for the project and they are listed below. We are also very near to competing the wish list for new items we will need to make this bus look, drive and perform like the day it rolled off the factory line. So stay tuned...
Used items we still need:
Set of bus rims, 15" preferred, 14" ok
Speedo (rebuild able)
Fuel gauge (rebuild able)
Bus muffler (we have htr boxes)
Rear hatch t handle
Both cargo door handles
Clean radio or block off plate

Awesome work you all do each year to raise funds for your favorite charities! Awesome Karma built up for the ABC members and donors of goodies to bring these old Buses back to life each year!

What size motor is going in the DDP? That will need to be known for someone to be able to donate the correct stock muffler. damper, tailpipe...

Also, what "date code" are you looking for on the speedometer (might as well try to get it right on)?

Keep up the awesome work ABC!

We have a fuel gauge but is in rough shape so if yours is better Red, we could use it….for you new bus Laughing

Bill, the bus was built in mid May of 1962. The m-code plate is missing or we'd have a more exact date. Jim Bernite is building a 1679cc (69x88) single port for the bus, should be a great stump puller with the small nut tranny. We have a set of heater boxes so a stock muffler would be great.

We've made some decent progress despite the lure of perfect campout weather we've had over the last few weeks here in Phoenix. I'll be putting up an update very soon with pictures.

For you guys with a pile of m-code plates…please look through them and see if you have the one that belongs to this bus which was in a salvage yard in eastern Washington state. VIN # 946285

Only 115-days until some lucky person drives this bus home!

Looks great, you guys are doing an awesome job! If it's going to have a Burnite built engine it will certainly be a fantastic power plant, he builds very solid motors.

Yes...if it was not for deadlines...the ABC would never get anything done!
Only 47 days until Jerome Jamboree where one lucky winner will get to drive this bus home and we have been busy making her solid. The AZ Bus Club has moved the raffle bus to north Chandler, AZ for the remainder of the project as we've found shade, shelter, evap coolers and a cement pond to help us thrash on this sweet bus. We are in full GO mode now that the 115-degree temps have set in and the monsoon humidity is here to drown us.

We have come a long way in the last 30-days and are down to one 2"x 6" patch on the drivers rear corner to complete the welding on the main carcass and just a couple issues to mend on the doors. We've already started smoothing minor dents and applying filler and hope to have this beauty painted by the end of August.

This bus was originally L87 Pearl White and would make it the 4th L87 raffle bus in the last 6-years plus at least 8 of the 23 past raffle buses have been Pearl White. So...the ABC Restoration Crew took a vote on choosing one of the six factory correct colors for a 1962 Double Door Panel to shake things up a bit. Choices were:

L31 Dove Blue
L62 Ivory (usually only ambulances)
L87 Pearl White
L345 Light Grey
L380 Turkis
L456 Ruby Red

With nearly 40 different people physically contributing to this bus and eligible for the voting pool...we had a very strong and resounding 25 out of 40 votes for L345 Light Grey! Can't wait until we start squirting that lovely shade of commercial bus goodness on this 24th Arizona Bus Club Jerome Jamboree Raffle Bus! (I know...JJ XXVI?... but the first two JJ's did not have a raffle bus)

Too busy to chat and got to get back to work so we'll leave you with a little raffle bus metalwork porn:
