Does anyone have any experience with the use of a 115 volt spot welder available from Harbor freight? If it truly makes a nice clean spot weld it would seem to be worth while purchase, using it where possible rather than plug welding and grinding flat each weld. Any comments would be appreciated. |

But I think you need to get to the 'other' side to make the spot weld and in alot of situations you really cant. What is the link to the HF spot welder you are talkin about?? _________________ cars come and go, VW's live and breathe! |

In my experience with a Harbor Freight plasma cutter, I would pass on the welder. Even if your not going to use it much, you still want it to work when you do. Save up for a decent welder. |

It's the "Chicago Electric 115V Spot Welder" #45689-3VGA. I realize that both side need to be accessible and need to be within the 7" reach of the arms. I was thinking about attachment of the center third deck of the engine compartment, the rear apron (sides and top edge) and the bottom edges of the rocker panels I am planning on replacing on my '70 Ghia coupe. I have purchased quite a few tools from HF and have been happy with everything so far, although I have heard a few bad comments in regard to their inexpensive MIG welders. I ended up purchasing a Lincoln and have been have with it. The machine works great, it's just the operator that need improvement. |

I haven't used that exact welder, but I used a similar welder of the same design. It does work, but it's kind of a pain to maneuver a 25-30lb. welder into whatever awkward postion you need it. It does do spot welds though. _________________ 1963 Manx copy
