As far as I know, all 64s still had a throttle ring on the back of the shroud, not flaps. Flaps were introduced for 1965. |
More info:
Progressive Refinements page:
August 3, 1964 for Bus. |
Wow I just realized my bus had no thermostat or even mechanism behind the fan shroud tin for moving the flaps/ring |

I'm confused by the flaps v.s. ring for a 1-ton 1963 1500 engine.
Am I to understand that during this time there was a unique 1500 fan housing that is different and takes the cooling ring?
The OP pictures are missing so anyone have pictures of said housing? |

Do you have the flaps? Reason I ask is there are the "flaps" and the "controls" which include the "thermostat".
Throughout the years of owners and mechanics working on the engines it was easier to toss all that and just drop the shroud on. Mostly it works. But cold weather is not kind without the thermostat system and hot weather, it has been proven, the flaps help direct air more efficiently cooling the engine. |

I was just doing some reading on this - it's the same shroud for a fresh air 40hp engine.
The shroud without flaps.
I just got one this weekend so if you need photos, let me know.
In general, it looks just like a later non-doghouse shroud but without the little holes along the bottom for the flaps. _________________ How to Post Photos
