Vince….
I have some pictures from my red Tow'd and how that hood was mounted. I'll sent them to you. It involved a bracket from the from beam with a bend pointed forward and a bolt thru the ancillary foot panel thru the hood. Four bolts, Two in the kick panel on the sides and two front, in front of the beam. |

I didn't know those things existed down there!! I figured they just interfere with surfing fishing and sailing too much. _________________ 71 LWB Manx style dunebuggy

Update 5/27
Been awhile, but weather and work have finally lined up.
Body work is done:
High build primer and sanded:
High build primer is tan and after it is sanded it is a bit blotchy. Marc wants a light colored top coat. So I used a white primer that will act as a uniform base for light top coat.
The parts that Marc got from Winnie are gray and will also need to be primed white as well.
Will have it done for Marc before the MOTB16, maybe earlier.

Chris,
Marc has a custom (done when built) set up. It has original brake handle with custom cutting brakes on either side. Will take pics when I put it back together. (apart for blasting)
Update 6/7
Did some painting on the body today. Will over coat with tinted bedliner tomorrow.
This is kick panel.

... I had a tree in the yard with a branch that decided to try & defy gravity - it dropped onto the buggy body, but no major damage. Body is in primer stage.
Fiberglass repair time...

Hi Vince,
How are things going? Those photos you previously posted look pretty good, I like the blue and white color combo. How is the build going? I know that Marc is anxious to pick up his newest ride in October so that he can add it to his current stable. By the way, your surfing videos on Facebook look pretty dern cool. _________________ Gary David Holbrook

Still patiently waiting for some updated information/photos on Marc's Tow'd, or should we just wait for the unveiling at this year's Manx On The Banx? _________________ Gary David Holbrook

I really appreciate the update, Vince; I look forward to it. I really don’t know that much about how Tow’ds are built, other than what I have seen on this and other forums. I have seen a few Tow’ds at previous Manx On The Banx events, but I have yet to take the time to check them out in detail. Years ago, I almost committed to bid on a Tow’d that was listed on eBay, but after careful consideration, I decided to bite the bullet and attempt to build my own dune buggy from the ground up. The Tow’d design really does offer a unique personality, and I really like the fact that they have their own built-in tow bar; what a cool and practical idea. _________________ Gary David Holbrook

Been doing some work on Marc's Tow'd.
Cleaned frame and painted it with "Bar Rust" marine paint. Rebuilt the front beam. (New tie rod ends, ball joints, welded in a beam adjuster)
I re indexed the rear torsion/spring plates to give it a better softer ride.
I replaced the original "U" bolts (that hold the rear torsion to frame) with heavy duty ones. (Big thanks to Paul M for finding manufacturer to make them)
Completely rebuilt front brakes. With the rims and tires that Marc is going with I beefed up the rear brakes with a Type 3 setup. (Wider shoes and larger wider drums)
You can see the difference.
I also put the engine on to check that the torsion is indexed correctly.
Will need to change flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and generator since it is 6V at this time.

I'm re-starting a Tow'd re-build.
How did you get the ball joint beam to fit the Tow'd frame head plate?
Is that the stock drive train mounting angle? The tabs look bent inward. Will a dog house cooler fit with the drive train at that angle? |
