|
|
Wondering what the smallest size tire/low pro that I can run a port-a-wall insert on and have the insert sit against the tire.
Trying to use this as my determining factor on how low to go. Ive ran 135's and had the overhang of the white wall. Trying to avoid that even though 135's seem to be the ultimate!!!!
Thanks! |

Im running them on 145-65-15 with no problem. Ive also run them on 135s with no problem. Depends on the size portawall you have too. |

Here's a set of portawalls on my 58, 145/65 smarts up front, 165's out back. The fronts had to have the lip saver shaved off the rubber for the portawalls to sit flush against the sidewall but no issueas at all after that.

I had to cut the rim saver lip off my 145/65/15s too. After that they fit perfect. |

I hope my 58 looks that good.
I will do something like that with mine, if you don't mind me asking, how did you set your suspension? I'm putting on drop spindles from Wolfgang and not sure how to do the rearend..
I like the way you set yours up..

I tried "searching" and this is the closest result thread I came to my question and it's still not what I'm looking for. Does anyone know if port-a-walls will fit on 165/50/15s? These are the port-a-walls:

Ooo..I don't know. If it did fit, I think it might look goofy..even on the smart car tires there is almost not enough sidewall for it to look right (in my opinion) Being the black/red porta-walls you're looking at it might look a little better but you're pushing that insert almost right to the tread..I don't think it would last too long, or seat properly once the tires are weighted with a little bulge at the contact patch?
The tire comparrison..
145/65-15 3.7in Sidewall
165/50-15 3.2in Sidewall |

^^ I did read that they'd probably get eaten up on turns on short sidewalls. I wonder if anyoen has had any success with trimming the circumferance down? Thanks for the input. _________________ 1966 13 Window Deluxe

135's up front? Looks sweet, so does the bug on sprints in the back. Very nice. _________________ 1966 13 Window Deluxe

I have been wondering the same thing, because I want to run 185/55s up front and 205/50s in the back of my Bus and porta-walls would look sweet on it, in either a wide white or the narrow red stripe.
So, has no one run them on low profile tires? A 185/55 and a 205/50 still have 4" sidewalls and the wide white portas are 3" ?

You can run them on small tires...but you have to make sure the tires dont have the rim savers on them like smart car tires.. It keeps the porta walls from laying flat.. _________________ 63 oval rag "Swaggen"

Are they 15 x 2 or 3" inserts. I have 145 and 155 continental smart car tires? Thx _________________ Keep the Beetle Heart Beating...VWCPR |
