Found 1. The crank shown is for a Bus or Beetle. The Thing (181) crank has an additional "tit" on the end of the crank. I don't believe any real rear tin will have the fresh air holes because all the military 181s had gas heaters. I could be wrong.

Bus Boys list the bolt fitting "111-105-263A Bolt, Crank Pulley 1200-1600"
JK list the same nut for all beetles 46-98.

If you get a Industrial/181 crank you need the bolt with the hole through the center.

This is an idea I had. Have not tried it yet.
But use these to crank the generator.

Craftsman 18 in. Speeder Wrench, 1/2 in. Drive

Stanley Proto J5447 1/2-Inch Drive Reversing Ratchet Adapter, 2-21/32-Inch
1/2" Drive 20-Tooth Ratchet Adaptor

Craftsman 13/16 in. Easy Read Spark Plug Socket 1/2 in. drive

Good luck

haven't touched a car with one of those since one was abandoned at my grandparents motel in 1959. All I remember is that my grand dad said he knew more guys who busted their wrists using a crank starter than in football and boxing combined. He showed me how to avoid ending up with a broken wrist if I ever used one. Kinda the same theory of pulling a prop thru with your open hand and not closed fingers lest you loose them if the blade kicks back.

Photo from www.abarnyard.com. Never push down, do pull up. One hand not two, notice the thumb is tucked under the handle to keep from breaking the thumb or wrist if it kicks back.
