Does anyone know if the motel is pet friendly? We always travel with our Bernese Mountain Dog "Princess Elsa." Don't trust kennels _________________ 1987 Vanagon GL |

Mailed off my registration form yesterday -- planning to tow from Milwaukee since my wife and daughter will probably come.
I have a tow bar, chains, lights, etc. and I'm comfortable towing in general. Question -- would there be any advantage to towing with a (rental) tow dolly rather than flat towing, in terms of safety, wear and tear on the Thing, or other factors?
Looking forward to the event. Thanks to all involved in organizing it. |
I had mulled this when I did all my tow-baring, actually thought to purchase a tow dolly myself.
Safety: probably not much difference other than the connections to the tow vehicle and the THING.
Sitting on a dolly vs pinned to a tow bar.
Both would attach to a tow hitch.
Wear and tear:
A + for the tow dolly, you could tow the THING backwards
and remove the issue of it slipping in gear and destroying the motor.
(could cause your odo to run backwards so unhook that).
*You'd only be turning 2 wheels on the THING vs all 4.
(neg) the cost of rental of the tow dolly or buying one outright.
if it breaks down, hub fails, flat tire, it's a rental, do they bring you a replacement?
Actually I was leaning on a aluminum lightweight trailer either open or enclosed if I was really going to TOW a lot.
Dolly or flat tow the THING can be exposed to rock chips, rain, etc so you'd have to wrap it, tape it.
(I would def suggest doing this to all the front flat surfaces, hood, windshield and front part of the rear fenders for rock chips).
Either that or just Drive the THING!
I was going to drive it this year but Work has intervened into my vacation time, one of the bum's I worked with quit last week and i'm "IT".

Last call for Kubel Treffen East T-shirts.
The deadline, June 17 is just a couple of days away.
I know that a couple of order forms are "in the mail", but if you have not mailed in your form and intend to attend, please mail it in ASAP.
I don't plan on ordering very many extra shirts, so to avoid disappointment, please get 'em in.
Thanks again to everyone who has pre-registered.
Hope to see y'all soon, Mondshine |

Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, Delaware, Michigan, Indiana, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arkansas and Maryland.
Do these states have something in common?
Yes they do!
Things from these states have pre-registered for Kubel Treffen East 2016! That is...their owners have.
So let's keep it going!
Although the pre-registration deadline has passed, there is still time to fill out those forms and mail them to me.
So "Off and On!"
Even if you're a procrastinator from the volunteer state
Hope for good weather, and I will see y'all in about a month.
Many thanks, Mondshine |

Booooo DoubleC....... Boooo......
Work stuff sucks! (Says the currently disabled and recently unemployed guy!! )
Sorry you're otherwise occupied, we'll be sure to make some good pics!
On a brighter note, I towed Our Thing to the speed shop today to get the timing and carbs fine tuned..... I had it close, but it needed a pros ear !
She towed well, no issues on that end. The Fam is getting amped up for the trip and we'll be heading north between 09-1000 tomorrow!
Y'all drive safe, watch out for the crazies!!(that aren't in Things!) _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....

I'm planning on driving over on Saturday from Grove City, OH for the "car show" portion of the event if someone can please let me know what the time frame will be for the show since the time is really not specifically listed on the flyer.
I could probably make it over in my '74 but since I'm thinking that it would only be about a 90 minute drive if I stay off of I-70 but I just don't trust it for a road trip quite yet. |
