|

I'm about to tackle a broken clutch cable project on my 71 super beetle and i noticed two missing bolts on what I think is my torsion bar (see picture.)
Would there be any reason these bolts are missing?
If not, what size are they and where can I buy them?
Anything special I should know about installing these bolts?

Are they critical or is this just a shield? |

Yes they are critical. GO to ACE Hardware and get two with lock washers about 1.24" long. The hold the spring plate in place.
Good Luck. _________________ I have learned over the years.

That cover supports a bushing.

No. M10.
According to the VW Parts Book and Without Guesswork those are M10 bolts. M10x1.5 thread, 18 or 20mm long, torqued to 25 foot pounds.

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox. |

It's clear behind the transaxle there so if you find a longer length it's not critical. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia

I always get all four in before tightening them all the way down looks like the cover is on crooked and probably why the installer said F it its beer time 2/4 aint bad! holes might be stripped too the original bolts have a point on them to help line them up |
