M18 there probably applies to later Buses and M18 was something different for early Buses.
From

M18 is guessed to be sealed beam headlights on the early Buses
M86 is unknown but maybe something related to N/ American delivery
145 might be 6 pop-out windows... does your bus have that?
18 and 86 are pretty standard on a lot of N. American Commercial Buses from what I have seen. _________________ How to Post Photos

I posted this on my build thread yesterday but I believe it might warrant some discussion over here as well

Yes my Kombi does have 6 side pop-outs. M114 on my BC is the 6 opening side windows. Do you think the 145 relates to this as well? _________________ 69 Sunroof Deluxe - Montana Red/Cloud White (Sold)

I doubt VW would stamp redundant M-codes. |
The M codes were "re-used" for other items over the years.
VW put out a publication in 1973 with a list of M codes, with many of them relating to later models rather than early models. I suspect the museum is using this for their code data.
As for the popouts, these codes changed for this option. In my literature I have 2 listings.
M114 6 outward opening side windows for Kombi and Bus - sourced from the 10/1955 VW Salesmans Catalog
M145 6 outward opening side windows for Kombi and Bus - sourced from the 8/1960 M Option Catalog _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

Nice work!
Maybe share that literature with Everett & Siftung Museum... so it can officially be put to rest.
Any othe codes in your literature that show up on the list as "unknown?" _________________ aka: Evan

I suspect the museum has all the literature to find these codes, but don't go actively looking for them. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

Thanks for that - As you said they re-used some codes so one of those probably means something different for your year. _________________ How to Post Photos

Anyone have the same M-Code, or have any idea what M-753 referred to? The Samba list has only "seen on UV-delivered '62 single cab." Mine is a UF (San Francisco) delivered '62 double cab...
Even the Birth Certificate from the Stiftung AutoMuseum I got has it as unknown...I suppose there has to be others out there, perhaps other 62's, and maybe someone has a hunch. Cheers. _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

What does that look like as the '62 you posted says "cyclone" and has a different m-code? |

'64 sunroof kombi. Looks to be a US serviceman vehicle. Built to USA specs, but delivered to Germany. The sunroof is a monster option to see on a kombi. Special order buses with good options are delicious. _________________ .
