The body number is hard to read, but if it is 661426, the car is late October 1954 production.
A few things to look for:
- Are there small drain holes at the bottoms of the "egg" light housings?
- Is there a "bulls eye" in the center of the taillight lens?
- Is there an oil hole or an oil slot on the door hinges? |
651426, so September, and oil holes. The lights are packed away where they won't get broken, so no checking them for a bit. |

Checked, no bulls eye, and no drain holes _________________ modok wrote:

So, I finally bombed the spiders, vacuumed it out and gave it a better look. It has some really bad rust in a few areas that are very difficult repairs. Here for instance, look up
It's not as bad on the other side in back
but the front passenger a pillar is thin and rusted through. I will probably part it, and use some of what's salvageable for my split. Here's a few pics from after cleaning, just a few of the details
artifacts
I'm pretty sure this is beyond repair
Under the mouse nest in the glove box was a speaker delete plate
Trim ring from the carpet still around the heater knob
Back of the back seat is nice
hooks and straps
This is all pretty rough
reserve lever

Nice find on the oval. I found a 54 Canadian standard last year in Manitoba on a northern field. Mine is in much worse shape, but im going to restore it. I say bring it back to life! What a shame to see an old girl like that dead. |

I see about $1500 in misc part value...
you'd be wasting a lot of time and $$$ doing anything else with it... |

if you have the space the other option would be to keep it complete, wax all the rust/cavities and push it to the back of the shed for 10-15 years. by then it will be considered a standard restoration rust wise but have the bonus of being basically complete/unmolested.
if you also kept your eyes open and picked up og body/panel cuts when they come up at a decent price, or double up on parts when you are buying for your split to save on shipping, in 10-15 years you'll also have a fair chunk of what you need to fix it too while barely noticing the outlay. |
