There were also a number of variations of the basic Bandai VW. Here are four of them. Pictured clockwise from left: a basic friction-powered version with sliding sunroof; the bump-and-go with the sliding sunroof; a hard-to-find version with working headlights, sunroof and opening door; and a motorized self-steering version with headlights. The motorized one features a lever on the bottom that can be set to make it to drive around in different patterns.

There were other variations as well, including some nice convertibles. What's nice about these Bandais is that they were all well made; as long as the battery box is not corroded, most of them work with a little oiling.

I agree Blue Baron in that they are very well built.

The largest size BANDAI VW Sedan is the basis for my Sedan to Cabrio conversion.

Ive had my Bandai car listed in the classifieds for over a month now and none seems to be interested in it - is there a alternate site where I can peddle this thing as Im tired of looking at it.

They are on eBay all the time.
I don't pay attention to the sales there though as I don't collect Bandai Beetles.

One of my favorite bugs in my collection! It's a Joustra Beetle RC (about 1:18 scale) I think it was made in the 80s Smile
Hope you like it!

I posted these pics on the Mexican Beetle thread, but thought I'd share them here on this thread as well.

I received my limited edition (1000 made) Christmas 2016 "Open Air" Schuco die cast model today in the mail:

I really like the white one. The details pop. Plus it's interesting to see the last of the air-cooled VWs represented.

Cast Metal Promotional Bank made in 1974 by Banthrico of Chicago, Ill. rear license plate says 1977. Appx. 6", Given away by Deposit Bank, Heavy, nice detail, rolling wheels. They made a lot of different cars but could not find but a couple VWs on line.

I've had one in my collection for years, but I've never seen one that was a bank promotional item. Very nice!

The single tailpipe would indicate that the car is later than '74. It could be possible that a later body was made to fit an existing Banthrico chassis.

Found this 7" plastic beetle at an auto swap meet today, unremarkable until you look close. Made in Poland (cheep casting) and it was a 12 th. anniversary giveaway in 2002 for the Finger Lakes Region Volkswagen Club.
