PostPosted: Tue Sep 16, 2014 1:20 pm    Post subject: Woman backs up into my car while texting Reply with quote

This woman in the pink blouse and black tights backed into my bug last wednesday..
The two witnesses said that they saw her texting and looking at her phone while she was backing up...

So now my bug is at the body shop only after 6 months ago it left the body shop and i had taken delivery of her.

The woman has progressive insurance and she was at fault.
Police gave her the ticket.

Here is another look

So it will need the following repairs and replacement.

Replace Decklid
Replace Decklid Light housing
Replace Rear Bumper
Replace Bumper Overriders
Replace Towel bar
Replace Bumper Brackets
Replace Hella 500 Driving lights
Replace 1300 Emblem
Replace Decklid Lock
Replace Dual Quietpack muffler

Repair Left fender from dents and scratches
Repair Right Rear fender from dents and scratches

Purchase 2013 Maseratti Turismo Blue Oceano # 69982500
Spies Hecker - Base Coat 1 gallon
Spies Hecker - High Solids Clear Coat 1 gallon

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I believe as does the body shop that the metallic paint is not easy to blend or match so it would be best to just paint the whole car so it will be uniform

Aw man, that sucks. You've done a great job with this car, such a shame to be dinged up by such a stupid, totally avoidable accident.
People just gotta have those phones 24/7!
the dent in the engine lid will hopefully just pop out.

The decklid is cracked from the alternator pulley so it has to be replaced.

I was disappointed but not too worried.. My car was parked so whoever hit it had to pay.. the woman wanted for us to work it out between us and I said NO.. now she is contesting it with Progressive claiming that the repairs to my bug cannot be that costly.. I tried to explain to her that this is a classic antique and does not have straight panels like on a conventional car.. my bug is round and not just any body shop can do the repair.

Maybe she can text a friend to ask a friend to see if they have a friend to see if the car can cost that much to repair. Sad story, hopefully it turns out for you. There is a thread in the type 3 section about a girl and her car. I think she goes by vwgirl, sad story with some issues you might run into.

Hi, Jewish Guy, wondering if u still happy with ur purchase.

I will like to upgrade my sound system and I'm considering ur set up as it sounds great.

Might considering a different head unit as I would like to have Bluetooth, but it has to be kenwood as that is my favorite brand.

Do u still consider the wiring kit is enough?

BTW, your bug is my favorite so far. Love the color combo and if I decide to paint mine it would be similar color including interior.

Thanks.

The wiring kit is fine and works really well.. I have no complaints at all.
The bluetooth head unit is a good way to go.
When you are ready to do your bug like mine i can get you the vinyl for the seats and the paint codes.
Have you looked at the dash topper ?

From Page #4 of My Build .. I lost my images so here i am resubmitting them

The body shop says that my car should be ready this friday.. so in the meantime i have been putting together all the components together so when the car is at Marshall Painter's shop for the final build.

Just have to paint the small panels like the following dash pieces where the gauges will go... not an easy task to cut the grilles but i recommend anyone who is doing this to use a Dremel rotary tool and some small cutting discs.

Trimming the LH grille to accept the VDO 3 3/8" Tach

Here is lining things up and some more trimming to do

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Here is the finished product.. now to take the tach off and prep the grille for paint. I recommend putting a piece of hard plastic like the ones werksberg sells to seal the back properly and limit gas fumes.
