I actually purchased 'Ole Blue 2 years ago from a VW dealership close to home in Omaha, NE. It had basically served as the floor room "model." I asked if she was for sale, and to my surprise they said yes! Needless to say I purchased her on the spot! She runs great and looks great... except for the interior. So... my son and I finally decided to tackle the interior this summer- here are some of the pics of the cabinet restoration!
The PO gutted all of the camping wiring, and chopped off the top half of the cabinets, so the restoration involved both wiring (a converter for plugging in to camping sites, and an inverter to run from a leisure battery) and restoring the cabinets... or rather making my own.
The "gutting' was quick... the restoration, not so much. I tried to chronicle our exploits through pics. As you can see, there weren't any right angles, and very few straight edges- so it took longer than my wife would have liked, and my son had the patience for! We plowed through and got her completed though.
As previously stated, I now have a power converter for camping, and when there's no plugin I wired a power inverter that runs from a leisure battery. That, combined with the installed TV and 3 electrical outlets, means that we should have some great camping adventures this fall!

If you're not using those gray handles, I'd totally buy them off you |

I will certainly see if I still have them- though since I never planned on reusing them I doubt I kept them. Also, I think they are the cream color- the lighting might have made them look gray. |

Thanks! I am just glad it went as well as it did- "measure twice, cut once" right?! The wife was not happy with the time investment, but she came around when she saw the vision. Also, I had never worked with maple panel board, so that was a leap of faith. But all in all she came together well! |

Nice cabinetry work.
So, not so much a restoration, which to me implies a return to original condition, but a very nice rebuilding. And better than the original, really. _________________ John
