Your video is listed as private. I just had a thought, what carbs are you running? |

Kicked the rpm up to 950, runs smooth. Was told that duals like to be around 900 to 1000 rpm. Plus I found a brand new rubber vacume plug had a hole, so that wasn't helping.
I did spend this weekend rebuilding the front end. New ball joints, tie rod ends dust seals. Found a couple cracks fixed those, welded a few seams that hadn't been done already. Cleaned and painted it all.
Used this tool to remove ball joints from spindles, and tie rod ends.
Normally I think of tools from harbor frieght as one time use, or through away tools except for there 4 1/2 inch angle grinders and this tie rod end tool that is.

Link should be fixed. Single Barrel 34s. I don't remember off hand. |
OK that makes sense. Just as an FYI, single barrel carbs have a tendency to only idle on 2 cylinders, so thats nothing to worry about. As long as it smooths out when you rev it up, you are fine. |

Since you have the thing front end on there already, you should try to find a set of the braces to help support the front beam. |

I was told to kick the idle up to around1000rpm, so I did and it was running much better. Tightened up a few loose ends, got a 21 day trip permit and drove it last weekend for the first time.
Told my girlfriends kid to help get all the tools end loose junk out of the car and went for the maiden voyage. And pulled the throttle cable out of the linkage a few blocks away. Was able to idle into a gas station parking lot, No tools except a pocket knife, and no one their had tools. Used the knife and got us home.
Saturday morning, repaired the throttle grabbed a few tools drove it a couple miles and the alt quit working, got it home had to go to a horse show unable to work on it till Sunday.
Pulled the brushes and cleaned the contacts, charging at 14+. Pulled the muffler off just for fun and drove it around off and on all day Sunday. Little hesitation off idle, just anther bug to work out.
Thursday the weather was nice decided to drive it to school. The bug was a hit, everyone thought it was cool, lots of thumbs up on my way in. The car definitely gets the looks.
Friday after work I made it to the dmv got the title transferred and registration taken care of. First time its had good tags since 85 or so.
All and all I'm stoked to finally have it on the road, need to work a few bugs out but I'm having fun. If any one will be at the nwbugrun at the woodburn dragstrip I am going to put the bug in the show. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

I had a terrible experience with their angle grinder however, it burned up with a wire cup brush in 8 minutes. Hows the Bug? _________________ "when i go to drive it i get to like 5-10 mph it is at high rpms and gets higher the faster i go when i shift up to second the rpms drop is this normal or what and this is my first vw please help" |

Must be luck of the draw on those things then. Lol. Been driving the bug around a bit, engine leaks from every place exempt valve covers, and rear main seal...my girlfriends kid got his first job so I was going to let him split the case and help him reseal it so he can drive. If he is motivated enough to work on it.
Other then the oil leak I just need to take care of some flat spots on the tires. A local company will buff the tires round for 35 apiece. Then it's ready for daily driving. And I can concentrate on the 2.2l subaru wiring and what not for the swap.. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

|
|
Here is how to tell your final drive ratio. That ratio will be a combination of whatever gear your in multiplyed by the ring/pinion. Jack up one side of the car and place jack stand under trail arm. release parking brake. Put car in 4th gear. Mark the tire that is raised. Take out spark plugs and turn engine with bar and socket. Count engine revolutions required to make the raised wheel go around two times. This should be your ration. The differential/spider gears will double the speed of the lifted wheel. That is how they work. (that's why steering brakes work so well!) While this number will not tell you much about the transmision ratios, it will allow you to calculate road speed at a given RPM and vice versa. If you need the formulas you can probably get the somewhere on this site. As I recall they use basic math and can be worked out on a standard calculator. |

Been a long time, started my subaru swap a couple weeks ago. Freshened up a 97 2.2l had it running on my stripped down harness before I pulled the engine. Made a throttle body reverse to get it pointing towards the rear of the car. Here are a few pictures
Radiator is out of a sirroco got it for free, ebay fans, made my own shroud. Hoping to have it done by the end of the month to make it to the NW bug run in Woodburn OR. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

From my trip to dunefest, drove that setup fully loaded out into the dunes to camp. Fronts at 20 psi rears at 25, and trailer at 10psi..
No real action photos in the sand but I am really impressed with how the 2.2l runs with the transmission that is already in the car. I could pull most hills in second and not have to get a huge running start. Towards the top it would lug really low but keep moving..
Drove it to work the other day and other than the flats pots wore into the old bfg mud terrain tires it drove great. So I decided it deserves a new set of shoes..
33x10.5r15 bfg km2 for the rear and 30x9.5r15 k02 for the front..backing it out of the stall and pulling up to the driveway I noticed how much better the car rides.
On my way back to work that evening the eBay electric fan quit. Had to replace it with an orilies fan. I am in search of a good water and dustproof electric fan. Looking at the maradyne champion series.
Other than a vss, a coolant temp guage, rewiring a fuse block to run inline with the amp meter, and a good look over of the car. I'm really happy with it. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

how did you use that balljoint separator on the vw balljoints? I bought one, but the "U" shaped end is not big enough to go around the balljoint and let it slip thru. |

The flanges look like Bus IRS. What trans does it have?
Whatever the trans is, there is what your CV drive flanges are for. _________________ Richard

It is used to separate the ball joint from the spindle not the arm. Just push the u part between the spindle and the arm, the finger end presses against the threaded stud part, use a wrench a little lube on the threads of the tool and go slow. It was a suprising pop when it finely came loose.
Sorry for taking so long to get back..hope you figures it out or this helps.. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |
