|
|
I know that this is not recommended, but I am taking my rail out to the dunes this weekend, and the front end desperately needs the link pins re-done. I have ordered a new set, but they are currently backordered, and I doubt that they will be here before I leave tomorrow.
So, my question: Can I get by for the weekend using washers in the place of the alignment shims? I know that it is not ideal, and I just want to use it to get by for the weekend until my parts get here. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it and if it worked? _________________ my build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5953836#5953836 |

Why are the old link pins bad?
Other washers in nearly correct thicknesses or using one thick washer for 3 or 4 shims with the correct total thickness will work for a while. Measure it 1st as you put it together, then take it apart and grease it as it goes back together.
If the pins are bad, it's likely that the bushings were already sloppy way before. _________________ Richard
