Hello, I need help identifying this early dome top oil cooler. Some one stated it is early 356? Does any one know the year? Thanks

Looks like a 36 HP VW so if it was Porsche it would be pre 56, the 2 piece case.

If I'm not mistaken (which has been known to happen), that style, or something very similar, was used on the T1 As as well.

You'll pardon my curiosity, but why would the year be important?

There are more reliable ways to identify an engine.

And given the fact that it is not visible, its weight, and it's marginal performance, wouldn't an issue of "authenticity" be moot?

Just wondering...

It's a a whe cooler used through the A years and maybe even early B? My 1962 industrial engine came with a Behr cooler. Those dimpled ones were not used on VWs,except as aftermarket.

The Porsche late-A coolers were dimpled but not domed like that as far as I know. They were flat-topped. Perhaps this is an aftermarket cooler from the period?
