Has anyone tried these, stainless steel pea shooters, for any length of time? Do they hold up and are they worth the extra cost?

Got a link?

I've never had trouble with the stock chromed units. I use very fine steel wool and occasionally a coat of wax (n a cold unit!). The outsides usually outlast the insides, which can rust and break down.

I think I used them on my 65....I dunno 6 or 7 years? about 30K miles. Still look good. So, yeah, worthwhile.

It's not what you asked but possibly another option...... Parts Place Inc. had N.O.S. ( real quality chrome ! ) made in Western Germany pipes last time I checked.

Thanks everyone. I've decided the stainless steel are the way to go. My '67 has to be outside, since I don't have a garage. Constantly waxing might work, but I'm thinking it would burn off quickly anyway. WW's are 250 mm long (about 9 7/8 inches) and Bentley states '66-'67s should be inserted no more than 1.8 inches into the muffler. If they are inserted about 1.00 to 1.25 inches, it will allow them to stick out just a little past the bumper. I think that will help keep the exhaust gasses from damaging the bumper chrome.

My question is: Will 1.00 to 1.25 inches be enough to keep the pipes mounted solidly in the muffler? Seems like it should.

the quality of chrome can vary a good deal, i got chrome pipes on one car installed two years ago, rusting like crazy. others I have had for 5 times longer and they still look nice. Some stainless pipes maybe of inferior quality they too will rust, with the best alloy stainless pipes will last a very long time with no rust. not all stainless nor chrome is made equally well for rust prevention.

and yes the insides often can fail well before the outside gets ugly. Crying or Very sad

Thanks, blue, good points. The Wolfsburg pipes that I got are made in Germany, so I hope they are better quality items.

I put the SS pipes on this morning; the 250mm is plenty long enough. Bentley says no more than 1.8" in; I put them in about 1.5" so they stick out just a little past the bumper (0.25" or so) to keep the gasses off the chrome bumper hopefully. The old pipes were in almost 3".
