Yes look in the technical drop down under Beetle VIN / Chassis Numbers type 1. Maybe an early 69 case. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
Numbers Matching VW's are getting harder to find. Source out the most Stock vehicle and keep that way. You will be glad you did.
72 type 1
72 Squareback

"H" cases were the dreaded 68-69 that had a SOFT metal case and the reputation for pulling head studs thus the Invention of the Case Saver by VW.

FWIW, I have read a few places that the H cases from 65-66 busses were not the same soft alloy as the beetles. _________________ modok wrote:

I started building engines in the late 60's and when the VW engine plant in Brazil had a major fire the production stopped for a long time as such the supply of NEW cases dwindled.
What I/WE did was to use the late 1200 64-65 cases that were like granite rock when drilled for the case savers and also opened for the 85.5 cyls.
I did what I had to due to the demand at the time.
Anyway those 68-68 cases were like butter when drilling for the savers.
I never did build any larger then a 1600 ( stock use only)
I would not call them scrap as for a daily need they are fine.
Look at what GEX is doing today.......supply is dwindling. |

I've had good luck with the H cases- all mine had case savers deep #3 head stud (which had to be checked for cracks) and not bigger than 1600. and tended to be cheaper. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.
