Looked at the auction site. Estimated price $300-350K. Seems like a world record price. Saw the car at Carmel Concours years ago and it is nice. Great for all Hebmuller owners if it sells in that range.

I don´t think so.
It is a Volkswagen. I do not want them getting into that range.
If I would like to be among millionaires and their toys I would be into Ferraris or such cars.
I have a Hebmüller and when it gets onto the road again I want to dare to drive it and be among other ordinary people.

Bold choice on the interior.

What colors are the exterior?

I don't think it's correct for a Hebmuller, right?

The green looks like Turquoise / Turkis but I'm guessing that is not correct.

The Bring A Trailer text says "Light Sea Foam Green" but I figured that's just them not knowing the VW name for the green since Sea Foam Green is an American car color name.
The auction says "Volkswagen Green / Ivory" which could be Turkis?

The drivetrain and interior mods definitely bring the value down IMO. On the other hand, as is often the case with these auctions, someone with more money than brains will pay twice what the car is really worth and then everyone will think "their" Heb is worth that much.

Something tells me the bidder is not a Samba member, but a stockbroker looking for new investment grounds... That is quite a bit to spend on a beetle.

I always assume that any unrealistically high bids under the reserve are shills.

I agree. I watched the auction and I think the last real bid on the car was at $150k, the rest was a run up IMO.

Doing a Hebmüller in anything but the original color and materials, seems ridiculous to me. But, as they say, it is his car, he can run it off a cliff if he wants to.

Found these in the gallery. I think the auction estimate price is no where close to realistic,, even for 2016. The quality and authenticity to push a record price just isn't there. I am sure the right Hebmüller will bring this type of money someday.

BTW:just noticed 1952 bumper guards

I think the upholstery is ugly but realistically if you are buying a car this expensive, what's another small percentage to redo it right?

I took the photos of the Heb that didn't sell at the Mecum auction in Monterey last weekend. I'm not a Heb expert, but I thought the car was way "over restored," particularly the interior. In my humble opinion these rare cars should be restored more sympathetically and more consistently with how they came from the factory, not all primped up like this one was. Evidently the market agreed, because it didn't come close to it's minimum estimated value. Hooray for the marketplace!
