Uhh, the guy has gone thru things EIGHT TIMES and he still has great confidence in giving half his retirement money to GO WESTY? Go Westy has some nice products but none I need. I have driven 2.1 waterboxer Vanagons about half a million miles in 26 years, been in 43 states and 2 provinces. Broke down a few times but NEVER paid a tow or did not drive home.
My best STOCK 2.1 engine (tin top) would go near 100, any time, every time.
I never did anything 8 times, except change the oil.
My take on all this is he drank WAY TOO MUCH GO WESTY KOOL AID.
Just remember, these Vanagons were all new once and none are now. Go Westy pretty much stands behind NOTHING. Drive this car 5 years and put nothing in it and it will be a non runner.
It's not an investment, sorta like going to the casino, you do it because you can, not because it is a good idea.
I love my current car an 87 Wolfsburg Westy. I bought it for $300 with a bad motor. Put one of my excellent motors in it. 7 years and 80k miles ago. I take it to swap meets and camp in state parks. I gotta get a good bike rack yet. I wish it had a kitchen unit.
I'd say, $23k tops for this one that is the perfect color.

Well, he's down to $20k and claims he won't go less. Looks like he'll either be keeping it or he's gonna find a chump to buy it.
At least he's showing pics of the rust. _________________ - Jim

Hi.
Would like to know what is the price range for Vanagon in US?
4x4 syncro mainly.
I'm not native, so my grammar sucks. |

For a syncro westy , the cheapest I have seen in the last year is 25k and thats rare.
The most expensive is over 100k but that is rare also.
Most seem to fall between 35k and 60k lately |

And how about plain Syncro like 1.6TD CL Caravelle?
Also is there any intrest of VW Vanagon RV? Google "VW Matkaaja transhotel"? I might have 2 RV to for offer and 1 syncro. |

Unlikely to find very many 1.6TDs. Unless it was imported from Europe. Most North American Syncros came with the 2.1l wbx.
Tin top Syncros range in price from $5000~ up to $40,000~ and can be more. Most will be in the $10,000 to $20,000 range though. _________________ 1987 Westfalia, Slate Blue

Sometimes you just have to shake your head wondering how people are able to post ads on Craig's List. Here's 3 pictures of a van for sale in WA. 2 sideways pics with 1 of them having detail reducing sun flair. And then there's the super helpful drawing of the van. They should have drawn smoke coming out of the tailpipe to let us know it runs.

CL = DIY = LCD (lowest common denominator)
Good pics & readable ad copy adds another $1000... _________________ 86 White Wolfsburg Westy Weekender

Hope I didn't post this one before, its a SCAM.
http://eugene.craigslist.org/cto/5788135044.html
Photos may be of more than the two obviously different vans... There's one shows a 2wd, and another shows a syncro. Not at all sure if the other shots are wrong too...
Beware of this seller.
I couldn't find the "report this scam" button _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

4 of the 5 ads have been deleted in two weeks so there's a decent bet they sold near asking price.
The one that hasn't sold is the most expensive, doesn't list the year, is Canadian model and has been recently resprayed. _________________ - Jim

Only $3,000 now! Sad, I know because those were probably nice trucks. Too bad that working on burnt stuff is such a pain in the butt! _________________ 89 Tristar Syncro Doka - White

Nope... $3,000 is for the diesel one... $2,000 for the other... $4,000 for both... laughable. _________________ Don't harsh my mellow...
