75 Westy.
Friggin rear drum WILL NOT come off.
E brake loose, stars won't move, pb blaster, heat, bang, repeat.
Even sacrificed the backing plate to get an edge to ping with a brass punch...NOTHING.
Remove the entire hub and go from there? Thoughts?
Thanks! _________________ Subaru |

did you remove the 2 bolts holding the drum to the hub?
is it stuck on the hub, or jiggly and can't get past the shoes? _________________

Hey Skills thanks!
Yea, bolts removed, no jiggling. Thought was maybe the drum had a ridge behind the shoes or something but no movement at all....it turns ok, just no play between the drum and hub... _________________ Subaru |

Not the best solution, but i have a big sledge hammer that I call the negotiator just for solutions like this... Supposedly it could shock the differential so unbolting your cv joints may be a good idea but I never do. |

how? it's a floating drum stuck to the hub. you can't get a puller behind the drum due to the lip.
you west coasters.... _________________

I always remove the hub to do brake work. This way you can replace the outer wheel seal while you are at it and everything else is just easier. |

I have to say you are all great and thanks again!
Pounded it like Skills said. Damn that worked. Soaked it overnight first.
Picked up a hub puller from aeromech's photo.
Good safety advice as well.
Don't normally pull the hubs for brake work, but may as well do the bearings while I'm there.
Pics to follow! _________________ Subaru |

Hitting one hammer with another is not good practise. I have seen people get big holes blown in their cheeks from doing so. A piece of soft metal like aluminium, lead, or brass is safer to whale against. |

I like having a porpoise when I do things. When you whale on something and it flippers over then you've created a fluke. I know that sounds like a lot of blubber but its important to harpoon things that can blowholes in a person's cheek. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |
