Lovethatconvertiable, thanks for the compliment. I hope to keep progressing at metal work on these old VW's. I really enjoy the process. |

Allan Buc, I can't seem to find your bug on the link? That's awesome you also have a Gulf Blue 62 rag. Does it have the locking ignition?
As far as the heating system mine is still intact on the pan. I'm actually going to be starting the pan and making sure to transfer this unique 1 year only heating system.
Thank you, and keep checking back |

Allan Buc, awesome, here in the states I have seen very few euro 62 rags. Cool to know someone is watching the thread with the same configuration. |

Workmanship and artistry.
Also nice that this work is being done on a bug, as it shows the details of how the bug is constructed. |

Jzjames, Thank you for the kind words, and Thank you to everyone for the positive feedback it really motivates me to keep the posts coming.
I have a lot of respect for these old simply engineered VW's and I hope to be doing them justice with my fab/metal work. I hope to keep progressing at it and be able to share the unseen guts of vintage VW's not only in this project but future projects. |

Does the heater channel get welded to the outer front bulkhead panel? I see its welded to the inner bulkhead panel but I didnt notice any mention or pictures of the outer panel.
By the way awesome work and documentation. |

Weasel_ugs, The very FWD bulkhead panel gets spot welded to a 90 flange At the end of the heater channel. Also in the outer corner, the factory welded a small spot. I will try and take a photo and post it. Thanks for the great question. GOT RUST? |

At this point, it is time to move onto working on the pan halves as I need to move the 1962 to my moms while the new shop is being constructed. The PO had tried to do some funky patching of the OG pans with fiberglass. A lot of the rust and damage to the OG pans looked to be from the car scraping, as it sat so low.
I went with Wolfsburg West pan halves. The quality seems to be very good as does the proper lines and pressings. They are missing a few of the OG pressings so I will be correcting those areas.
This one year only 1962 heat duct was still intact on the drivers side pan half:
MISSING: passenger side, so if anyone might have one of these or has seen one on the classifieds please PM me.
OG pressing, not on WW pans so I went ahead and pressed them in.
Jack points were laid out and spot welded on.
Keep posted and thanks for checking out the metal work. |

Vwhelmot, thank you for admiring the work I'm doing on the 62. You guys over there on the other side of the Atlantic do some impressive metal work on these old VW's. |

No worries, yes, standards are improving. I suppose the internet helps, shows people how it should be done. |

vwhelmot, I just checked out your thread, wow thats what Im talking about. Beautiful job on your metal finishing work. Great attention to detail too, this is the kind of work I feel these old VW's deserve.
Also, you do any lead work? The nutsert tool you made is awesome. |

Thanks mate. I`ve done a bit of lead work in the past but not on this build. Although lead is a much more traditional way of finishing and works great, modern plastic filler is good stuff especially if used right. Evercoat gold ultra is the product I`ve used and its amazing stuff. No shrinkage and sanded so easy..
You leading yours? |
