Yesterday I was able to pick up a 1977 VW Bus nearby for what I expected to be a parts bus. Very pleased with what I picked up. Not sure which route I will take for the future of this guy... It does have a ton of parts I need for my current 75 Westfalia restore which is also FI. Engine has been untouched for some time. Looks as though it was driven and then just parked for a long time! Insurance cards in the bus prove it was mobile in 2002. Motor is currently locked up but once I get my hands into it I have a pretty good feeling I will be able to fix it up! Any information or thoughts you have are welcomed and highly appreciated!
I have attached a few of the pictures I currently have! More to come!

Nice Champagne Edition. Definitely don't chop that one up. Has Champagne-only interior parts and spare tire cover. I have the same Bus but mine looks like hell on the outside, and about the same as your on the inside. Someday I'll have more time and endless supplies of cash to finish it. Nice find. Good luck. _________________ - 1977 CEI Sunroof Bus 2.0L F.I. Hydraulic Lifters

Thank you Oscarsnapkin for the response! Very neat to learn the history of this guy. I mean it was initially strictly for parts.... But can any bus enthusiast actually just have a parts bus??? Looking more in depth this would have to be edition 1 on the CE and was only made in 77 and 78! The headliner doesnt have one rip in it! Seats that are present are in overall great shape and super cozy! _________________ 1984 westy

I have just bought a '77 as well... lets share progress...
Mine has been sitting for 10 years in the West Texas sun -petrified rubbers all round.
The engine has a single card of unknown origin. I am moving to dual webers for the time being then rebuilding the EFI..

Wow That is a gorgeous bus! And you picked it up in that condition! I strictly got this one for some FI parts that I needed to restore my 75 Westy ( http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8190544&highlight=#8190544 ) which is fuel injected. Come to find out I may have quite a gem on my hand. It has alot of wear on the outside and rust through doors (floors seem good!) but the interior is overall in good condition. Spending some hours reading up on it and I must say I tripped over an amazing deal here!
Thank you for all the responses! The best part about getting a new bus is learning the ins and outs of it! _________________ 1984 westy

yes - went to an auction not really expecting to buy anything. Now added this to my 1959 Beetle and '74 Ghia.
I'm currently getting all the EFI bits - seems the ECU's are very year specific. Fortunately the only thing they didn't rip out was the ECU - and mines an Auto.
I'm not sure mine actually works but it seems to be OK from a visual perspective.
New wiring EFI harnesses are available vs trying to repair an old mangled one.
the forum and the people are extremely knowledgeable, passionate and helpful!!! |

You are aware that you also seem to have a CE-1? |
