Hi guys and girls
I thought id share my new project/ weekend driver
As far as the vin searching will take me its a 1970 model built in around august/September 1969. Its a carby 1600 manual and ready for some love.
Iv requested its certificate from Germany but who knows how long that will take.
I'm not 100% its the original colour or even a period colour at all.
Its got a long list of jobs to do but ill slowly work through them and get it back to a decent condition.
Thanks for looking |

Same pattern but different offset. The wheels will rub. OK temporary fix but I wouldn't want to run it that way all the time. _________________ 2017 Golf Alltrack

Well after having it for a few days and finally getting a chance to inspect it.
I found its dual port 1600 with a 009 dizzy but that's where the good news ends... many leaks and worn out items.
Starting to formulate a plan not sure if I'm going to go all out any time soon but ultimate goal of 2110cc with modern fuel injection sounds good to me
but in the mean time I'm going to look into pepping up the tired 1600 with an electric conversion on the dizzy and 1 3/8th exhaust and I might put on some j pipes unless I can get the heater working _________________ 1970 Volkswagen Notchback- Bunky |

Late notches are handsome cars. Yours is a good example. |

Thanks mate
I'm planning on taking it drag racing in april so it gives me a goal to get it on the road properly..
On the list is
new front ball joints
get the brakes working properly
sort out the play in the steering
and maybe just maybe start tackling the rust _________________ 1970 Volkswagen Notchback- Bunky |

Small updates
Previous owners attempt at stopping the water getting into the fresh air boxes... Yep that's clear plastic silicone over the vents
Also some handy work by the PO
And what the other side looks like
Rust in the front inner guards from the reinforcement boxes

Looks like standard type 3 rust to me. I've worked with worse/less before. It's just time consuming. An example;
Same car today, but it now has 4 lug sprint stars.
You'll probably find more behind the rear fenders/guards/wings, as there are spots where the seam sealer dries out and rust moves in. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yep the more I look at it the more rust I find.. Need to start treating it before it takes over the car.
I need some opinions, Iv already decided the car will be factory style 2 tone (I'm aware it wasn't an option this late in production) it will be blue with a white top, very classic in my eyes. Plus the car is factory white so its a small nod to its past.
I'm just very unsure exactly what blue and white I want to use, I want to try and use factory colours from the period. I'm thinking sea blue with a pastel white top?
Will that look reasonable or am I just mad? _________________ 1970 Volkswagen Notchback- Bunky |

Nice looking car. Whatever color of blue you decide on, it'll look good. Whether you go with a factory color two-tone or create your own, it's your car. Play around here http://www.busselecta.com/ with some color schemes and such and you should be able to get a good mental picture where you want to go with it.
Pick a date to start your rebuild and go after it. Take the time to collect the parts and materials it's going to possible take to start on your project and enjoy the car as it is until that time. Once that date shows up, disconnect the battery and tear it down. There are alot of build threads going on that will give you great information on how to deal with some of the challenges you are going to be faced with Someone, like bobnotch and others have been there and can give you sounds advice and guidance on how to tackle issues. Looking forward to reading up on your car. _________________ MonT3

Tiny update
Old MPH speedo
Rusty trim ring and all
New KMH speedo
Back in the 70s Australia was in mph so it was the factory speedo... but now we got with the modern age and now use KMH _________________ 1970 Volkswagen Notchback- Bunky |

Well after a long wait.. The Birth Certificate arrived.
Just as I suspected factory Pastel white with black leatherette
Has a couple of interesting M codes that arnt even listed in the samba index so may never know what they really are.
I'm not too sure I will be refitting black leatherette to the car as in summer with no A/C here in Australia the seats will be dangerous to sit on in summer, Possibly black cloth or maybe even leatherette sides with cloth where you sit as a good comprimise _________________ 1970 Volkswagen Notchback- Bunky |

I have read about getting this but it looks I would be disappointed. I thought it would indicate the motor serial number that was in the car to see if you have numbers matching car. I guess not. |

When submitting, you have to supply them the motor number you have and they will tell you if that was the original one. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

I supplied them with the current engine number and they advised me that is was not the original engine.
But after re reading my engine number I gave them the wrong one so I may have to contact them again
I'm really not worried about having a numbers matching car but a lot of people with the earlier and more rare combos its definitely worth keeping original _________________ 1970 Volkswagen Notchback- Bunky |
