Pre-A Engine Compartment Liner

I've read that the Pre-A cars had engine compartment liners that were composed of vinyl over some sort of insulation http://forum.porsche356registry.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=32003

Has anyone tried installing a liner like this? If so, how well did it hold up the engine heat?

I have mine in for several years and it holds up just fine. It has never been AFIK a problem that people talk of. Tom

1953 model year pre-As did not get the engine compartment insulation. Just undercoat. Same with the pre-A Speedsters.
