|

Just had the TC snap at the barrel on my dual carb linkage on my 65. Luck would have it I had a backup EMPI universal TC in my box and was able to just secure the end bit, the piece with the allen screw. Put some locktite on the threads as well.
Got me home, feels secure but seems kinda like a weak fix or I'm I over thinking it?
Sorry for lame question but is there a better way to secure it?
Ordered a bullet proof one from Aircooled.net but hoping this one will get me by until it gets here,
Thanks in advance! |

If you shoved the cable far enough, the allen screw will push the cable in and hold it with no issues. I've used one for years on Kadron linkage and Berg shroud mounted linkage on 48 IDAs with no issues. I just set my Subaru throttle body up to use one also. I think that the main important thing is that you have the allen screw tight but also you want the cable adjusted so that when the pedal is all of the way down, the cable gets full throttle at the engine. You don't want the cable to pull too far and pull the cable from the adapter. _________________ 67 Beetle Build Thread

I've used this VERY SAME throttle adapter with my single Weber 40DCNF for 40 years. No issues.

Surfbeetle, Cusser, thank you both for the replies.
I'll double check peddle/throttle throw since I did it last night in the dark.
A little peace of mind goes a long way, thanks again! |

ive ran with one of these cable adaptors for near three decades in my Bug. if installed properly, should never be a problem

Oh, hint: along with a replacement throttle cable for this, I'd also make sure I had the correct-sized allen wrench in my VW's toolbox. On my adapter, the allen head is SAE, not metric; Ace Hardware near me sells such allen keys individually in the nut/bolt area, so be prepared to shell out like 50 cents. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Very good point! On my car now, I use a shorter than stock cable, so as long as I have the allen wrench, I can reuse my adapter on any cable that I get. I have had a cable break at the pedal and couldn't have replaced it without the allen wrench. _________________ 67 Beetle Build Thread

Little over 250 miles on the EMPI adapter. Seems to be holding steady.
Received the "bulletproof" TC and install hardware from Aircooled.net so it's in the bug awaiting a warm day, maybe next spring
Using the bug a lot due to truck being in shop, been having a lot of fun! |
