Ok all........ I'm kinda new at the Buggy thing. I have never towed a car and I need to tow my Dune buggy. I installed my tow bar last night and my hitch is going on tonight. I'm being told that I need to disconnect the drive line if all 4 tires are on the ground.
Is this true?
How can I do that?
How is it possible to disconnect the drive line with a direct fit and no driveshaft
Im trying to get to Silver Lake Off Road area Michigan. from Illinois for my sons birthday this weekend and I need the vehicle operational.

This question comes up often. I just towed mine from Richmond, VA to South Dakota with NO problems. Make sure it's in Neutral, Parking Brake OFF, Don't back up, Safety Chains and Lights, (Mine are wired for towing), Etc. I tow mine @ the speed limit. Usually about 65 - 72 mph. I've towed with inflated tires, deflated also. Deflated (12psi) causes it to ride better, doesn't bump front to rear but get less mpg. I did have a problem when I bought my new truck with weaving side to side. It was because of buggy out of alignment and the tow bar was steep up to the ball. I bought a 6" drop receiver, got the buggy aligned and problem solved. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=654915&start=0 _________________ I'd rather be an hour early than 5 minutes late. One other tip - if you have a locking steering colum, you have to unlock it (and leave the keys in it) so the wheels can steer with the towing vehicle. I have flat towed a buggy cross country with no issues, except warped rotors on the tow vehicle after a couple of high speed panic stops. Leave extra room. Dittos to what others have said, Check trans is in NEUTRAL, safety chains , towing lights, unlock steering column, and do not get in situation where you have to back up.... Unless you are white knuckle driver after first 50-100 miles you will forget it is back there (check mirror)..... And take city street corners a little wide to avoid dragging buggy over curb...

If you get caught towing in the rain put plastic bags over the air cleaners and carbs or they will fill with water. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Double check everything. I ususlly tow with a VW Jetta TDI.
60 mph and you forget you have it behind you. Tends to push the Jetta in the corners a little. I too warped my front rotors.
My car is standard so I start off then put the clutch in to make sure buggy is freely coasting in neutral.
Can you tow a buggy with a dune buggy? Yes you can.
