Well, here we go again! I can't believe I've organized 31 of these VW camping weekends for you folks! Hey! Check out the fresh, new website that Kathryn built for us at: http://www.bnnta.com

"Buses Nowhere Near The Arch #31" - B.N.N.T.A #31

Formerly, and also known as "Buses By The Arch". A family-oriented VW camping weekend!

Friday, Sept 2nd thru Sep 5th, 2016 (The entire Labor Day weekend!)

It's time again to make plans to attend the premier Midwest VW Type 2 camping event! On average, we are delighted to host roughly about 100 Buses. (Check out past event coverage in the July, 2011 issue of "Hot VWs Magazine".)

Come join us for the upcoming "Buses Nowhere Near the Arch" camping weekend. This family camping event will feature a gathering of VW Transporters of all types and eras from all over the USA. While predominantly a Type 2 event, all models of VW are welcome to camp with us! We are looking forward to seeing you and your Volkswagen amidst all the "Split-windshields", "Bubble-windshields", Vanagons, and EuroVans as well as any other VW types this Fall. All models and years of VWs are invited, and only VWs are allowed inside the BNNTA event campground.

"Buses Nowhere Near The Arch #31" will be held rain or shine over the long Labor Day holiday weekend, Friday, Sept 2nd thru Sep 5th, 2016. We will gather again at the group use campgrounds at Indian Creek Recreation Area. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground is located on the 18,000 acre Mark Twain Lake, about 30 miles southwest of historic Hannibal, Missouri. This is a beautiful, federally-run campground with paved roads and pads and nice facilities. Most conveniences are available in nearby Monroe City or Hannibal.

On both Friday and Saturday evening we plan to have campfires and music along with VW and other "unusual" door prizes, and parts swapping in addition to the "site-to-site" socializing "Bus-banter" that this VW camping event is famous for. On Saturday morning we are planning another of our famous "Bus caravans" over to historic Hannibal, the boyhood home of Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. "Mark Twain." You'll have lots of time to explore the haunts of his hometown, or tour "Injun Joe's cave." You won't want to miss it!

On Saturday afternoon, a informal pot luck dinner is held, with bar-b-que pork being served up while it lasts. If you plan to join us, please bring a large dish of your favorite specialty to share at this communal diner and gathering. Later on Saturday evening, owners choice awards will be presented in several Type 2 classes in addition to vendor and participant-donated VW-related door prizes. If you have a neat VW item to donate, please bring it along. On Sunday you are free to enjoy the lake or visit other regional highlights. It should prove to be a relaxed, fun weekend full of great Volkswagen experiences and new friendships.

Our private camping facilities at Indian Creek include our own large, private "Buses Nowhere Near the Arch" group area with some electric hook-ups (first come, first served), fishing, water-sports (bring your water toys), playground, huge pavillion, toilet and shower facilities, and a nearby boat ramp. The all inclusive camping/event fee is $30 per VW for the entire weekend.

Only VW’s that are registered and camping will be admitted into the BNNTA group campground area! Now, please read that last sentence again!

Campsites in the BNNTA group area cannot be reserved in advance. The gates to our campground will be open for arrivals and site selection by about noon on Friday. If you arrive earlier, you could stay nearby in the regular Indian Creek public campground at their daily rate. Although there should be plenty of room for all, the earlier you arrive the better.

We are looking forward to your arrival for a holiday weekend full of Volkswagen fun. Please pass the word around to your VW friends about this Volkswagen camping festival held over the long Labor Day holiday weekend!

Wipe down and pack up those Transporters for the cruise to Mark Twain Lake for the "Buses Nowhere Near The Arch #31" campout on Friday, Sept 2nd thru Monday Sept 5th, 2016 near Hannibal, Missouri. Please see the newly updated (yeah, I know, finally!) website below for a link to a mapping program to find your way to BNNTA.

"Buses Nowhere Near the Arch #31"
Indian Creek Recreation Area, "group campground", Mark Twain Lake, MO

Directions:

From Monroe City, MO:
Take US Route 24 southwest approx. 6.5 miles.
Turn left (south) onto State Route "HH", (WATCH FOR "BNNTA" SIGNS)
Proceed almost 1.75 miles, turn left onto first paved road. Monroe County Road #581. There is an "Indian Creek Marina" billboard and "BNNTA" event signs at this turn, then proceed a little over 3.5 miles into the "Indian Creek Recreational Area" and watch for signs on the right for the "Group Use Area"; then follow the "BNNTA" signs into the "Group Use Area".

Welcome to "Buses Nowhere Near the Arch"! We look forward to seeing you there!

Bill Bowman

Hi all,

I just got off the phone with the US Army Corps of Engineers Rangers up at Mark Twain Lake and all is in order for the upcoming BNNTA Camping weekend. They are excited and looking forward to the first arrivals of Buses and other VWs at the Lake for the long Labor Day weekend. We're busy getting the graphics (thanks again to Tom Janisewski!) settled for this years event, and then we can go ahead and order the trophies and dash plaques as well a the limited run of event t-shirts with the new artwork.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone again in about a month from now!

Mark your calendars and get your VWs ready. Check out the new website that Kathryn made up with photos for the Buses Nowhere Near the Arch events at: www.bnnta.com

See you all soon!

Bill

Howdy all!

Just landed from a three day "see North America adventure" for AA. I worked four flights over a fourteen hour on-duty period duty in the same MD-80 aircraft all day! Today I feel like a freight train rolled over me! Back home for a few days off, whew!

The BNNTA event t-shirts have been ordered, and so have the event awards, dash plaques, etc. Around the Bowman household, we'll soon have registration packet materials scattered all over the place as we get your packets ready for the event. Then we'll be loading lots of event stuff into two or three of our old VW Buses for the Labor Day Friday morning trip up to the BNNTA location on Mark Twain Lake. We are getting excited to be seeing many of you again soon at the Lake for some VW camping fun!

Last September (BNNTA#30) according to the info on the turned-in registration forms, the "oldest Transporter at BNNTA #30 award" was won by my '59 Double-Cab. But I understand that perhaps someone else there may have had an older Bus in attendance. I want to get the award to any older Transporter that was registered/attended the Sept 2015 event, so if you or someone you know has that Bus, get in touch with me so I can get the "oldest Transporter at BNNTA #30" award to you!

I don't normally like to look at the long-term weather forecasts until about five or 6 days out when they are more and more accurate, so I was delighted last evening to see that our area is forecast to have a chance of rain on Wednesday(midweek) and then nice dry and cooler weather for the upcoming BNNTA camping event over the Labor Day weekend, with high temps in the low to mid 80's, lows at night in the mid-60's. Perfect camping weather!!!

As of Monday the forecast for Mark Twain Lake, MO is:

Thursday, Sept 1st, high 81, low 62, sunny
Friday, Sept 2nd, high 79 Very Happy , low 63, mostly sunny
Saturday, Sept 3rd, high 82 Razz , low 64, sunny
Sunday, Sept 4th, high 88 Laughing , low 72, sunny
Monday, Sept 5th, high 91, low 75, mostly sunny

So if you haven't already, grab your swimsuit, pack up you VW this week and head on over to Mark Twain Lake for the BNNTA #31 festivities!

Early arrivals are already camping at the lakeside campground for BNNTA. And the weather is perfect for the camping weekend! Looking forward to getting there tomorrow!

Almost ninety older VWs camped out for the four day holiday weekend event. Spectacular weather! Great fun, I finally made time to jump in the lake on Sunday between my event duties, I won't miss doing that again in the future! Lots of donated door prizes to pass out to participants. Already planning for the 32nd event next Labor Day weekend 2017!
