Measure everything and replace all the bearings. Check and maybe replace the oil pump. The cam depends on what u want to use the engine for - torque, revs etc. Then a lot of the rest of the decisions comes later. Heads are a very important selection. Look in the performance forum at the builds and you'll get some ideas. _________________ 1973 1303 with AB-motor - sporadic

Classic rookie pitfall, change cam. The stock cam will be best with your small engine. 2 barrel Weber is a waste of time when for a few dollars more you could have small duals, the duals give better performance and gas mileage too. A cheater cam or Engle 100 with small duals, small diameter single quiet pack would yield best results. There's a sticky at the performance forum that talks about proven combinations of engines of all sizes, read it. |

I've used a stock cam in my 1835cc engine for 40 years now....I use a single Weber 40DCNF because in 1976 I changed from single port heads to the dual port heads, so I needed a new intake manifold anyway, and dual port end pieces were still costly back then. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
