I'm desperate to see this back on the road too but she has to be ready first.
Before the mud plates go on I want to waxoyl the inside of the rockers. A tough job when sub zero temperatures hit. Not nice in the garage and waxoyl does not flow. Went and bought 2 meters of clear tubing the waxoyl probe end fitted into and an old pump up dispenser from my father in laws garage clear out a few months ago. What a great tool.
Left the tin by the wood burner in the living room for a day to warm up and finally got the job done.
Repeated the operation through the back access holes too. Pleanty of waxoyl on the garage floor where it ran out of the drain holes. I suppose that's a good thing.
And finally back on its wheels again ready for a first run out.
Short daylight hours, working for a living and sub zero temperatures are making going out for an installation run a bit tricky. Maybe tomorrow?
Thanks for looking. _________________ 1958 coupe |

Congrats. You've come quite a ways since you sliced up your first heater channel! I feel like a complete slacker having put my car under the knife around the same time yet you are now driving in style while I'm barely driving! _________________ 1971 Ghia coupe. All credit to you J1 for the inspiration to make the first cut with the angle grinder! But if it's any comfort I'm not yet cruising in style.
No door cards, sill plates, carpet, stereo, passenger seat etc, etc......
But I am cruising.
Back on the road again, again!
I was a bit worried the 1971 rear bumper without wrap around towel rails would look odd with the reflector deleted below the tail light lens. But I think it's ok.
Stopped by to see Justin at Retrodubs, my local aircooled vw parts supplier for some more bits. The never ending list. New wheel centre caps. Was missing 1.
I love driving this old thing. Another tank of gas ready for the next dry day. I'll put the passenger seat in tonight.

A few more bits recently.
Got some nice shiney centrecaps a few weeks back. Why cant I find Porsche crests to fit them? Well not locally anyway. Probably looking in the wrong place but bought these from Auto Atlanta in Georgia. Years ago they were a 914 specialist- cover more models now.
Applied.
Fitted.
Carpet- I know Newton commercial are the standard here but I wanted something to do over the Christmas break and their lead time was 8 weeks.
So went with a company called Spirit of the 50's.
The carpet is really stiff and tough so should be hard wearing. Accurately cut and bound.
To get it to shape needed to heat with a hot air blower. It then shaped really well to sick down.
On the whole, pretty happy.

That carpet set certainly looks to be good quality and appears to fit very well.
How did the price compare with the carpet set from Newton Commercial?
BTW, I absolutely love the look of your two-tone seat upholstery with the contrasting piping - Outstanding!
Congratulations on a job very well done - you should be very proud. |

Thanks.
Newton was £280 (not sq weave), Spirit of the 50's was £200.
All plus carriage.
I had a Newton set for my '64 over 10 years ago. It was the more expensive square weave so I can't really say for sure how a newton £280 compares with this. Just to say in isolation this set seems fine. _________________ 1958 coupe |

A job well done, if I may say so. Beautiful car, well appointed.

Nearly at the end of the road.. maybe.
I bought the last missing piece, rear seat restraining clip. One piece from Germany, had to buy both parts. Including postage, 50Euro!
I've put a good load of miles on the car in the last month and will continue to do so until it sells.
If I'm ever to finish my Lowlight, which will need significant amounts of cash to finish, I will need to regrettably set this one free again.
So took some photos for an advert while the sun was out.
Drove up to the place where I keep and work on 'CJ' to get a photo of the two together.
