While I have the engine out waiting for the Timesert kit to arrive, I thought of checking the torque on the case nuts. But, the torque reading will not be accurate unless the nut/stud threads are clean and lightly lubed (right?).
So, could I remove one nut at a time clean threads and retorque? Would that cause any issues with the case sealing? Not critical, but just something to do on a rainy cool morning here.
THx,

I think you'd need the case together, cylinders and cylinder heads installed, and to torque ALL 16 NUTS in the correct sequence. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Check your head studs torque too. Some studs are 8mm and others are 10mm studs. Find the torque spec in the Bentley for whichever studs your engine has. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]
