I know this may seem pretty esoteric, but I swear my ghia has this resonance that when properly tuned - all comes into alignment for the ultimate driving experience of only an aircooled car can deliver. Porsche included.
Now I'm not talking ultimate experience in a BMW marketing kinda way, but in the feeling of the steel, the vibration of the gear shift, the ping of the exhaust, the sound of the carbs sucking air. The way it feels. The heat from the rockers. The urgency of the shift. Wow.
Do you have these days too in your ghia, or am I just in love with my car? |

I think some sports people call that moment "the sweet spot in time". I had some days like that in my tennis playing days, when the ball came to me so slowly I could read the label on it, when my feet were light and fast, and my hands and eyes were working in perfect harmony to place the ball exaclty where I wanted it.
The South African athlete, Wayde van Niekerk, had a minute like that at the Rio Olympics - 400m in 43.03 seconds. My Ghia drove like that just this last Saturday.
Sweet magic. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

"Fahrvergnügen"
An experience often felt by dub drivers... often putting around in my bug daily I wonder how it feels just to drive an ordinary car just from A to B and feel thankful I get to have that satisfying moment each day. _________________ 1960 Beetle ''Heidi" daily driver

I think your in love with your car. But I am also guilty of man/car love. I drove mine yesterday for what is likely the last time before spring. Coming home from a trail run I was taking a hilly dirt road and came knowingly into a corner a little too fast. I was expecting it to skid out a little but instead it just stuck there. Having touched every nut, bolt and surface on the car, that is satisfying. |

big play on words there just to say you feel you're in "the zone" when driving your car
while I've only had my car a few months we'really bonding quite well, I've got it tuned nicely and purring along, I know it's quirks and capabilites I already feel no one could drive her like I do, I haven't quite had that euphoric moment yet but nothing beats an old vw... thus the reason I'm back on the saddle once again after all these years...
driving newer cars takes away from that driving experience all together... though I still like driving my '05 Duramax but it's not stock.. _________________ BUS WANTED: 13 window BUS any year considered.. |
