This is a photo of a plastic model that has been shortened, but I think it would be fun to do this to a Bug. I've seen a bazillion shortened Bugs here and elsewhere, but nothing as sweet as just moving the doors back to the rear fenders without shortening them.
I am thinking it would require taking an inch or two chop on the uprights to get the roof to line up.
I might have to try this, once I have my Winter projects done.
A Super Beetle would be okay for this too:

I bought an unfinished one for parts back in the 90's.

The shell has gone through a couple owners since I had it but the last I heard, a guy was going to put it on a Suzuki Samurai chassis. _________________ 1985 Diesel Jetta Coupe (temporarily retired at

I think that most all of these are shortened too much.
My thought is to remove maybe 10" by vertically sectioning the quarter panel just in front of the rear fender and just behind the curve of the door post at the rear window sill; then section the same width out of the roof, but do it aft of the quarter panel cuts by a few inches. This will allow room for a few undercuts in each of the remaining upper window frames and roof skin, front and rear, so that the arc of the rear could be opened slightly, and the arc of the front could be closed slightly, so that they meet in a smooth transition. It might also require some longitudinal cuts in the roof skins to adjust their lateral arcs to match smoothly. The idea being to preserve the door and door posts whole and untouched.
Cuts like this:

Its chopped too, but this one came up on Craigslist earlier this year and I actually thought it was a nice looking modification. Appeared to be well done from the pictures.

What would be really cool is to be able to do this:
Can anyone photoshop a real bug? haha |
