Likely Glenn can answer, but I don't mind putting this up for everyone's education as well.
I am looking to build a distributor, based on an air cooled VW one, using the Nissan Z22 dual plug cap and rotor. Since it will be electronic, and all I need is the core dizzy, I am wondering what model I should start with?
My main concern is being able to have it built/rebuilt with readily available parts - I don't need a specific advance curve or anything at this point.
It is going in an NSU 4 cyl, that uses the same distributor drive. I also don't need the #3 cyl retard. _________________ 1972 Porsche 911E

It looks like a great option - I like CB, it looks like a work alike to the MSD and Pertronix 'big' distributors, and sounds like it has better construction than the normal Chinese 009 dizzys. I hope. My biggest concern is that the dizzy lasts at 8000rpm, and can be refurbished if need be. Also that the fabrication to adapt the other cap and rotor isn't overly difficult. _________________ 1972 Porsche 911E

I would not use a distributor... I would trigger anything other than average/normal ignition with crank fire... And use electronic "black box" to drive wasted spark either coil or plug (cop) or coil near plug (CNP) ...

I hear ya Dale, and I agree, it would be much more accurate.
However, it's vintage racing and there needs to be a distributor in the hole to look correct. And I'm not going for every last ounce of power, but reliability and durability, so I can get away with a non crank sensor setup I think. _________________ 1972 Porsche 911E

Thanks - I have seen that, and it gives good info for stock engines.
I will adapt the Nissan top to a VW bottom, just not sure exactly how it will come together yet. _________________ 1972 Porsche 911E

A lathe to cut the tops off at the correct location above the inner bearing and a TIG welder. Then whatever magical rotor the Nissan uses will need to be adapted. Whether that means machining the rotor to fit the shaft or modifying the shaft to mimic the Nissan. That can also be done with a lathe and TIG. _________________ -John Cox
