I am in the process of replacing the floorpans and these are my questions:
After I weld the floorpans, what goes first Por15 or seam sealer? Rolling Eyes
Then I will paint the floorpan, what is the preferred undercoating? Rolling Eyes

I put seam sealer on first inside and out, then sprayed the underside and inside of the pans with sprayon bedliner. I didn't put any POR-15 on my brand new pans, there wasn't any rust on them to neutralize. If you want some pics or more specific details let me know.

OK. Seam sealer goes first.

The sprayon bedliner? is that the same thing as Rhino Lining? Does it add strength?

I am not sure exactly what Rhino liner is. If I recall correctly its a spray on bedliner that auto shops put on. I have never seen it in person, so I couldn't tell you the difference between it and the Dupli Color brand that costs $6 a can. The rhino liner might be a thicker type of covering. I would hope so because it costs more than the spray on stuff. The spray on stuff wouldn't add any strength, it is like hard rubber now that its on. It should deaden the road noise though.
Here are some pics of the seam sealer before I sprayed the pans and POR-15'd the center channel.

It looks real sharp now, just need to get a picture of it.

Don't bother using the cheap spray can stuff. Try using the catalyzed urethane bed liner kits. It's going to cost you more but it is definitely much less than rhino. Any paint store should carry it. I prefer using a product made by SEM, called Pro-Tex.

For the inner pans I used Hammerite. This stuff kick ass. There are various other paints designed specifically for rust prevention. I think your best bet is anything you can spray or brush on. Hammerite smooths itself out as it dries and looks real nice. You can also brush it on thick.

Just my 2¢.. Por15 does not need rust for it to work.. A metal surface with a tooth will work just as well. I have tested it with a piece of metal sandblasted.. cleaned.. Painted with por 15.. I then sandblasted it again to see how well it would hold up.. It was a PITA to get off. I was better off using paint stripper to remove it.. Por15 is wonderful stuff if used/applied correctly.

I am in Hawaii and wanted to seal my entire floorpan against the salt air here. I just put new floor quarters in my Thing and then applied POR15. I followed directions and used the marine clean and metal ready. Problem was I did not have enough metal ready to do a good job on the top side of the pans. The bottoms turned out well because the metal ready etched in pretty good, but the top did not do so well. THe POR15 did not adhere very good to the tops because the surface was not rough enough. I think the quarters I used were galvanized so I should have really roughed them up better. make sure you do good surface prep.

Aloha

I have removed my old/rusted floor pans and I have some new floor pans from Wolfsburg West.

Question Should I sand-blast them to bare metal before welding them in?

Question Should I apply POR-15 before welding or after?

Definately take off all the coating that comes on the wolfburg panels.. It is not good at all for a primer undercoat - just protection until the sale. I blasted mine and the stuff was not adheared well at all.
Steps..
1 clean off the black fake primer stuff
2 plug weld in the floors
3 prep the welded areas for paint
4 apply POR15
5 Seam Seal around the bottom lap joints.

Sandblasting is the only way imho!

You will get mixed results with their 3step process.
