|

Ok, Ive gotten to the point where i'm shopping for paint!
So here's my problem...
My local paint supplier who carries PPG paints quoted me on their Omni line paint for Sea Blue (greenish version 65-67) L360 PPG code 12945
$43.50 qt
codes found here on thesamba
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/colorstype2.php
More info on the color

I have read that the Deltron line is better for several reasons, coverage due to more solids in the pigment and better color matching and depth?
Ive also read that the Omni line takes more paint, perhaps not 4x the paint per the price difference but definitely more making it not as budget friendly as it would appear at first glance?
BUUUUT, my PPG dealer told me that they cannot mix L360 (either code: 12333, 12945) in the Deltron line. What are other people using for their Sea Blue? Did i get a bad paint man? Use a different Brand?
Is the shop line (omni) going to yield good results? This is not going to be a show car and this WILL be my first time painting a car, but i would still like to end up with a good looking paint job!
Also, for reference... I'm painting a 65 bug, stripped down to bare metal inside and out top to bottom and coated with black SPI epoxy primer over metal, body work done over that, then more epoxy.
Car is sitting in scuffed primer and an estimate on supplies needed for a novice painter would be very helpful! |

I was a body man and painter for
Many years. The shop line or Omni
Line will work great for base coat or single stage.
Stay away from there clear it's cheaper for a reason
It will last a few years and then peel off and discolor.
Spend the extra money to upgrade to a D.C. 3000 or 4000
Clear or better yet go to there global series it will look like glass
And stand the test of time. |
