picked up a set of (3)
1-6" wide and 2 5.5" wide
4x130 bolt pattern
wondering if they are still desirable and what they are worth about?
probably not going to use them as i have a T3 and a T4
but...

I had a set of 8"ers on my bug about 15 years ago
<--------- see avatar
I still like them but I couldn't tell you if they are worth anything. You don't see many around so they may be worth something to someone. Since you do not have a complete set, it may prove challenging to sell. _________________ Type 1 - '68, '74

My 412 has small button head bolts on the rear drums that would prevent these wheels from sitting correctly against the hub. The 411 may be different.
They'd definately look cool if you could get them on. _________________ Type 1 - '68, '74

if your talking about the round topped bolts with alen key holes
they are on ALL ACVWs
but they can be removed (permanently)
as the lugs will hold the drum to the rear
im going to slip 2 of them on today and see what the offset looks like in the rear
ill post some pics _________________ 74 Mexi Swamp Thing. 70 square volksrod (Swamp Rat)..65 C10

I'd like to see that.
My 412 had aluminum slots on the rear. I thought it looked pretty cool, for a T4 that is.

I've never seen them on Fords/Chevys etc. I've discarded them off my squarebacks when necessary. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

no its photoshoped
im great at it
the front is a 135r15
you can see the edge of the wheel past the rubber
i have 2 185/65s and 4 165s
if i think the 165s will hold i will temp use those
just found a guy in pheonix with 7 T4s
so hopefully a couple new things including a hood and front suspension(im going to cut the others temporarily..as i really never drive her)
but soon she will be on the road for shows at least _________________ 74 Mexi Swamp Thing. 70 square volksrod (Swamp Rat)..65 C10

|
|
I just purchased a '67 bug that has a set of Interceptors on it. The geltleman I purchased it from said the rims were rare as the company that mfg them CMT (he was't 100% sure on mfg) was sued by EMPI for patend infringment. He claimed they were worth something in the neighborhood of $800.00 for a set of 4. I haven't had much luck confirming anything regarding the mfg, history or value of the rims.
I'd appreciate any information anyone can add to the story[/img] |

Personally, I don't think they are worth $800. What size are the rims? 7" or wider are worth a bit more money than say 6 x15s which I have a set of of sitting in my basement and they are like new. They are not really that sought after, although alot of people like them ( heavy ) rims.

Mark, thanks for your input. I'm not really familiar with these rims and was trying to track down info based on a fragmented story.
If I'm hearing correctly, the rims are somewhat popular, but hard to come by as they haven't been produced for a while. As far as value, it's more a a supply/demand issue vs. a "wow!, these are so rare and highly prized/sought after", that the price is driven up.
I like the looks, but have not decided whether I'll keep them (or keep them on the car) as I decide what changes I'll make as I begin to make the car my own. I thought it prudent to try and unravel the facts before selling some priceless gem for a few bucks. _________________ John |

Yes John, you are correct. I like those rims myself and keeping mine for a rainy day project someday. It has been many years since they have been produced and I am not familiar with the EMPI lawsuit.
Good luck with your project.

I know this is a bit of a dead thread... I've got a set of these on a Malibu Super Speedster ( BGW Spectre Kit) that was imported to the UK a decade or so ago...
Be great to find the original manufacturers name... I think they were imported into the UK in the early 90's by Cyclone wheels and branded over here as Cyclone Interceptors.. |

I have a set of 15 x 8 or 15 x 7 (I cant really tell) on all four corners of my 71' standard bug. They are over 20-years old. I know they are rare cause I have not see anywhere they were sold recently. Others have mentioned they are a heavy wheel, but I really like the look of them. And....they are very wide with an offset that look good to me.
They are so wide, that widened fenders were needed just to cover them up.
