What year and model number was this vehicle? |
1937 W30 No. 5 built by Daimler Benz.
This would have been a great photo for Chris Barber's book. |
Studying the lines on that car are phenomenal, door angle, shape of rear end, the complete car is great. What is that lil guy in the back ground doing? Picking berries?
Thanks for posting and researching sharing these pics from the past.

Obviously staged, but a nice photograph.
But what, no Volksradio?! That radio looks like a multi-band, probably listening to the VofA/Armed Forces Radio/BBC. Arrest them!

Obviously he would NOT be picking berries when there is a sign clearly forbidding it _________________ regards

On occasion, registrations were moved from car to car, but I think the car in the picture above is W30 no. 4. In Barber's book on p.112, there is a picture of a car with registration IIIA-37004 which he labels car number 4, and on p.113, he refers to a car with registration IIIA-37005 as W30 no. 5. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

On page 110, he indicates that registration numbers started at 37000, so 37004 would indicate the fifth car built. So car zero was actually car No. 1, and car No. 29 was actually the 30th in the series. The bottom line is that IIIA-37004 would indicate the fifth car built. (Or confusingly, W30 No. 5.) _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Yes, I missed that fine point. I love VW esoterica! Thanks. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Little overkill there.
You will have noticed the second bumper and the second line of side trim.
But did you notice that he even sports two sizes of those overriders?
And the accessory vent window is also really cool. |
