Hi,
Ball joints are not produced new so your only hope is to either find a stash of NOS ones, or good used ones. Watch the classifieds here on this site. |
Well..yes...techniclly there is one company......and it should be somewhere in those threads...that produces a ball joint (if they are still in business). Ot was retro tech or something.
The only issue with it is that it was a slightly lighter ball joint and needed somestrengthening tabs/washers added under the bolt hole areas on the mounting flange because the flange is thinner.
There is also some high performance aftermarket....rebuildable.....racing ball joints....that could be adapted. You will have to buy a tapered reamer bit to reset the angle on the ball jlint taper mount in the cojtrol arms......and have a bracket machined.
It will work.....be heavier duty....and solve your balljoint availability issue forever. They also sell new boots....which I have on my original bqll joints now. But....I have not done this modification yet.
If you would like to try this I will start a thread and we can help you through it...and it would help everyone. Ray
Edit....here it is http://rareparts.com the part # is RP10187. I do not know if they make it any longer or not.
Last price I saw was about $59 each....but Jegs has one listed at $239 right now....

This all being,said.....one of the, details I have noted from looking at the rare parts ball joint....and others who have bought them confirmed....is that the flange is thinner....and the welded on nuts will simply not work. Thay mounting pojnt is too flimsey.
Tightening the ball joint bents the flange. This is easy to fix with a little work. Grind off the welds...discard the welded on nuts. Trace the old ball joint flange onto 3/8" steel plate...1/4" at the thinnest.....get a circle cutter....cut out the center. Grind smooth. Either thread the holes for the bolts or put REAL nuts underneath. The extra thick flange will make all of this work just fine.
If yiu are willing to do that it iw5 not much more work ro retrofit an aftermarket joint from Howe racing with some fabricating. Ray |
