Agreed with hotsam, anyone can dispute anything and you end up getting it withdrawn from your paypal...it is a nightmare for a seller. I only use it to purchase now and will never sell on ebay again. |
Absolutely untrue. I won't use ebay because their fees are ridiculous but as a seller most of my payments come through paypal. I had someone dispute a sale of a Bus one time. Long story short, I had the photos and records I needed to prove the buyer was lying and after a paypal dispute, an ebay dispute and a chargeback through his credit card company that I won on all fronts, he went away and I didn't lose a dime. Nothing was every withdrawn from my paypal account. Not accepting paypal as a seller means someone like me with cash ready to spend will simply spend it with someone else. I remember buying and selling online before paypal too and it was a big pain in the ass. |
My experience...I sold a number of turbos to a man in Europe - an associate of someone I had been dealing with for a number of years. I shipped the turbos as promised, then he immediately filed a claim, got his money back, and put me negative by about $5k. Nothing I provided to Paypal would unlock my account. Since Paypal did not have my information (SSN) I did NOT pay them, but I did lose thousands of dollars.
This was 9+ years ago, so Paypal may have changed since then. _________________ 1968 Beetle |

This could still happen but if it really was filed immediately and you had proof of shipping, I believe this would be unlikely. I haven't had personal experience but have seen other people report this sort of scam and the claim was closed in the seller's favor since the parts could not have arrived so quickly, especially overseas.
Side note:
I never take paypal for that amount of money.
I have made several sales close to and far above that amount.
All were done via Wire Transfer. _________________ How to Post Photos
