Oh, I didn't sell her - a 17-year-old cretin broadsided me with a company van and wrote her off. I was able to buy the wreck back but, with nowhere to store her, I had to remove the few GT-specific parts I could store and get rid of the remains. If I had a garage or driveway I'd have repaired her.

She had a great history too - the PO's mother bought the car new in 1973, drove it until she gave up driving aged 82 and handed it down to her (grown-up) son who had it for two years but never drove it. He sold her to my girlfriend about 6 years ago and I took her on a bit later. Essentially a two-owner car Sad I always enjoyed the thought of an 82-year-old woman screaming around Dorset in a yellow GT Beetle Smile

My current one also has a bit of a story - I saw her parked up in my town once whilst driving the yellow one and left a note on the windscreen asking if she was a GT (at the time she was missing all the GT-secific parts bar the wheels and colour). The owner got back to me and offered me first refusal as he happened to be selling but, as I had the yellow one, I declined. Just after the yellow one was written off my mum was having some work done on her Passat and asked the mechanic (bug specialist) if he knew of any GTs for sale and he pointed her towards a red one being sold by another client of his. He gave her a picture of it and it was the same one, being sold by the next owner!

Regards,

Michael

Oh I see! Im sorry to misunderstood you! You have such great story of the history on aquiring your beetle. I got mine from an old dentist man and the GT was his first car. When i took her the color is different already and they did not pattern the paint into its original color. I just bought a Porsche 914 2Liter wheels for Boogie (my GT's name) last month, so if you look at it it just looks kike an ordinary late beetle. Do you have an dea if where can we get GTBEETLE badge?

Hi again,

"GT Beetle" badges are usually found in the same aisle as the hens' teeth and rocking horse poo - they're extremely rare! "VW 1300 S" badges seem to come up a little more often. That said, there's been two GT badges and a 1300S badge on eBay recently, one of which is still running - item number 250178984151.

The trouble with them is that they break very easily, usually between the "GT" and the "Beetle" - the originals were made from plastic, most likely because the run was so small (only 2,500 cars) that it wasn't worth VW's while tooling up to cast them in metal. I've never seen an unbroken original for sale. My dad had two GTs in the '70's and the badges broke on both - even back then replacements were impossible to find. A common solution is to glue the badge back together and paint it to hide the join, hence some GTs have black badges instead of the original silver. Even in a broken state, they command a high price - the "GT Beetle" badge sold on eBay recently was broken into three pieces and still sold for £50! For comparison, the "VW 1300 S" badge, complete but a little on the tatty side, sold for just £6 and is just as correct for a GT, even if it's not quite as special Smile

There's a Yahoo group for GT Beetle/1300S owners here:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/GTBeetles/

I think your best bet for finding a badge is to keep an eye out at shows and swapmeets and check in on eBay from time to time.

Regards,

Michael

Hi Michael! Thanks for sharing! I just got lucky when I found my VW1300-S script thru my friend Jimmy. When once on his shop they were selling a 1300-S beetle. I j ust had my v-o-l-k-s-w-a-g-e-n script traded to that badge. I guess all of us owners of GT beetle are aiming for having taht GT badge. I just wish someday I can find one on my doorstep.... Shocked ( hahaha! Im daydreaming! Laughing )

Mr. COXY!

WOW!!!! That is the kind of badge that I am looking for! Wanna sell it to me? Laughing You have a very fine GT beetle there huh! Applause Very nice bug bro! What happened to your bug on the picture?

Glad you like it.
The new wheels are Porsche 2 litre replicas.
I came around the corner to find the road flooded and I slid across and into the ditch Rolling Eyes

Sip, Bugoyking? Very Nice thread, indeed!

Wow, coxy! That was really an ordeal you underwent negotiating your way in that flooded street!

At least, your GT is okay now!

Keep us posted.

Hi Coxy...

I just had replaced my wheels also from OG 4lugs Sprintsars to Porsche 2 litre Original. What tire size did you use on them? What tire brand?

Here is the picture of my newly acquired Porsche 2 liter wheels! And my GT.

can I ask for the engine and transmission code of 1300s? most 1300s here in my country had changed their glasses, scraped the nipple dot on the dashboard corner, changed the shifter as well.. so what's left to check if its a true 0s is its engine and transmission.. thanks!

The UK GT Beetle/1300S came with an AD-code engine and an AS-code transmission.
