Dumb question:
Did you get that clock in Canada and if so does the clock belong to the special gas heater 411:s have mounted up front (only) in Canada?

Not a dumb question at all. While this car is in Canada, it was purchased in Europe, then imported and is a Euro spec model with more chrome around the headlights, side marker lights, etc. It is in a 1970 model, and in Canada we only started to get the Type 4 in 1971-1974. We had many armed forces personnel stationed in Europe and they routinely purchased and brought home vehicles. The fun thing is that this one has a sunroof and had a Westfalia tow hitch added to it.
This is the second Euro spec car I have picked up, the other being a 1970 1600TL Fastback. Green as well, but with amber rear turn signals, side marker lights and a TUV rear fog light.
If you mean the trunk only gas heater set up, I have one of those in a 1971 Variant parts car of mine.

If memory serves...need to look at the documents...my current 1973 412 two door was originally purchased by a Royal Canadian Airforce officer and shipped back as a tourist vehicle.

Is your speedo in km/h or mph? |
Its in MPH...and there were a few subtle details in the tourist package that denoted that its final destination was going to be the US though.
I will have to check my details though. There were IIRC two owners or drivers before me.
At oen time from teh documents ...I thought the original owner was either an American or Canadian school teacher stationed in Germany. She either bought it first or was married to the Canadian later or at the time.
I have a receipt for the install of the Wolfsburg III Am Shortwave at a dealer and it was paid for through a disbursement from the Canadian airforce Officers Mess.
Whoever bought it picked up in Germany and drove enough in Germany to have the oval German plate, insurance documents and the country of origin decal (all of which I have). It was also driven in France for a period...and I have plates....or Dang...let me check ...those may be Canadian plates.
At a point about a year later after it was purchased it was shipped out of Oslo Norway to...the US?
The last owner of it...maybe the third but i believe he was the one that shipped it back...lived in Stone Mountain Georgia.
He let his son drive it somewhere around 1979-1980-ish...and he thought he ran it out of oil (actually dropped a valve through negligence). I found it parked under a carport with the tourist plate on the front end...all of its documents back to the end of the assembly line and all of its former license plates in a box behind the back seat. Bought it for $300.

Hi folks,
I just signed up The Samba and therefor I'm not too familiar with all the functions in the forum yet. Hopefully my post is not misplaced!
Since summer 2016 I own the second type 4 in my life, this time a 411 stationwagon in geminiblue. See pictures below.
Now I just came across the pictures in this thread displaying the headlight details at 19super73's green stationwagon.
So, type-4-pros and -'veterans', if someone of you might have the slightest idea where I could find the headlight eyebrows in chrome and/or the chrome grilles covering the headlights I'll be very, very thankful.

Welcome to our group Aiken!
Nice looking 411 you have got!
Sorry, dont have any source for the chrome headlight surroundings (bezels) but they pop up now and then on e-bay and on the Classified section here on TheSamba.

Hi Lars,
thanks for your post, the 'thumbs up' for my car and the hints regarding 411-parts in the 'bay' and/or in the classified ads.
Cheers, Aiken |
