Its mounted under the chassis. Almost exactly over the transmission.
I would swear from memory that some 412 wagons do not have an access plate under the carpet for the heater glow plug and coil. If yours has one it will be right behind the back seat about 3" aft of the shock bolt covers and in the center of the steel panel a few inches from the edge of the opening for the engine hatch.
It will be under the cardboard liner that covers the steel plating in teh cargo compartment.
A quick check on the drivers side under the back seat for a relay rack with 3-4 relays on it will tell you that you have a BN$ buried in there somewhere.
But in case you dont know...there is a BN4 laying in the pile of parts in your photo! I could not see if there was a rear exhaust pipe on the right from your photos...grass was too high.

Its very common that the exhaust pipe is gone. About half the type 4's out there had non-functioning heaters in their days as used (ie: not with the original owner under warranty) vehicles.
If you tinker with your car a lot you will find that the heater exhaust pipe is really in the way of a lot of stuff. A lot of owners with non-functioning heaters just took the pipe off and then lost it. Ray |

Do you remember how much you sold the rack for? |
