If not for the skid plate, that picture would have been of the guts hanging out of the Ecotec
I spoke with Rick about our shock issues and he pointed us in the right direction. I hope to do an update in the next few weeks on how we solve the bottom out issue.
Happy New Year Richard! _________________ Cheers!

The shocks should be very close from the get go. We spent the time to gather pertain information on the car that was needed to set the valving and get the spring rate correct. Brett (King) and Chris (Lapoint) are a wealth of knowledge and are very open in sharing it. I can't say enough about the great experience we have had working with King to put this shock package together! Once again I have been blown away by the great people we have met through building this Baja Bug!
We will do a full post on the how, why and what's of picking this shock package at a later date.
Connor and Brett in the showroom.
Our shocks during final assembly.
THANK YOU Brett and Chris! _________________ Cheers!

Here's a short GoPro video of the first little run out in the car. I have tons of footage to process with much more to come in the future. I'm going to have to learn to edit |

Baja update...
I stopped by Transaxle Engineering today and picked up our freshly built 094 box from Jeff and Johnny. As I have stated before, during this build we have met some great people and the list keeps growing! We will do a full update on mounting and shift linkage in the near future.
We are planning to replace our worn-out shifter with a new unit. It's down to the Weddle, Pro Am or Jamar X. I would like to hear some feed back from anyone running these shifters before we purchase one.
The Kings have now been cycled and we worked through a compatability issue with the front Bypasses. The lower shock mounts had to be modified a bit so the upper arm wouldn't hit the shock at the top end of stroke. This is yet another lesson learned.
The rear shocks fit perfect!
I will try to update as everything comes together. _________________ Cheers!

words cannot express how awesome of a build this is!
I know you said the welds on your fuel cell cracked, and you got them re-welded...so do you still have that same fuel cell?
I also have a fuel cell that got a hairline, un-seeable crack in it, but i think you and I suffer from that same thing: solid mounting. i noticed you have a steel cradle the cell sits in, and 2 steel straps that come over top of it and sandwich it in place. my fuel cell was also firmly bolted in place on my drift car chassis (nissan 240sx), and eventually it sprung a bad leak. I assume it did this because of slight, yet plenty frame tweaks from throwing the car sideways, running into walls, other cars, etc. so what I did was drilled out the mounting holes on my fuel cell slightly bigger, and used rubber cushions on each side of the fuel cell mounting "foot". that way the chassis can slightly flex, without flexing the fuel cell.
and on my buggy build, i have welded in straps to cradle the bottom of my fuel cell, with 1/4" foam stuck on them. and then have straps going over the top of the cell as well, again with 1/4" foam on them. this way the buggy frame can slightly tweak, without tweaking the fuel cell, yet the cell is still held in place and isn't going anywhere.
the rubber/foam insulation also helps cut down on vibrations transferred into the fuel cell welds from the engine/trans.
P.S. - i think I have the exact same fuel cell for my buggy build, an RCI 15 gallon. Ive known them to be a pretty decent fuel cell, but this is the first one I have ever used. we'll see how it works out. |

Thank you Guy's for the kudos on the car!
We haven't had any issues with the fuel tank after it was re welded about 5k miles ago.
I'm glad to see that the youth of today are just as enthused as I was about building a Baja at age 16. Just a word of caution... Baja Bugs are addictive and will teach you life lessons that can only be found by hours in the seat and the garage!
The video was taken just south of Ridgecrest near the Dirt Diggers Adopt a Highway sign on 395. _________________ Cheers!

The new transaxle is in and shifts like a dream! I will post more pictures later but I wanted to show you what we came up with. We went with a Pro Am shifter and the Weddle 094 side shift kit. It also took some 3/4" cold roll rod, 3 u joints and a 3/4" bronze bushing.
A little side note... The reverse gear on the 094 is down over to the left and UP next to 1st gear. _________________ Cheers!
