Hello! New to this forum, have posted for years over in the 68-up bug forum. I found a type 3 engine being sold on craigslist and got it for $100. Here is the thread I started on it over there with a few pics of what it looked like when i bought it:

Straight off i will say this thing might be trash. It looks like it sat for years and was absolutely covered in filth. Anyways I thought it would be fun to learn the differences between the type 3 and the type 1 I am so familiar with, so here I am. I stripped it down as far as I could this evening (just look at all that filth I brushed off of it as I was working on it):
Muffler, heater boxes, and most ancillary bits are trash, however I kept whatever box this is:
And some other bits and pieces.
Unfortunately the distributor and the cylinders/ heads do NOT want to let go from the engine. Tried half a can of PB blaster to loosen stuff up but no luck. Trying again overnight to let it soak. _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.
