Back then they likely used some dum dum (sort of like plumber's putty).

that is why those knobs on the steering wheel are illegal in many places, germany for example. People oversteer.

So what's the date on this pic? 59 or later bumpers, but semaphores so, 59-60? Pic taken in 1960? The young chick babe German girl is 22 years old? That means born in 1938 in Germany. Lucky to have survived, let alone still smiling and maybe getting married.
That makes her 79 years old today. Yes, somebody's grandma now.
