I've recently bought a mostly original 73 Thing and have been doing a lot of preservative maintenance. One of the top tie down loops had broken off and I have a replacement one to put back on. My question is, how best to do this? It looks like the original loops were spot welded to the outer skin (Probably before the inner panel was attached - see picture of the missing loop). I'm trying to avoid a butcher job on putting a new one on and was hoping to get some guidance from those that may have done this. Thoughts I had were to drill a couple of little holes in the loop base and try to tack weld it. Other thoughts were is there some adhesive that would hold the loop in place like JB Weld or some of the automotive adhesive that they are using to glue body panels on new cars?

Thanks, Bud.

I drilled two 1/8" holes on opposite ends of the new clip and body and used pop rivits so I would not dmg the paint by welding.

I'm probably going to give that a try. I may put a little JB weld on the back of the base plate too.

Thanks,
Bud
