I just ripped out the old carpet and sound deadening and discovered the worst rust farm I have ever seen. Looks like my project just got more expensive. I have what may be a dumb question, but I don't know the answer so I have to ask. Are the floor pan halves bolt in or weld in? |

im no expert on bugs, but the pans in my 72 super are bolted to the body on the outside and back, and spotwelded in the center...i havent taken them completely out yet, but i have unbolted the outside of them. _________________ 71 Bay (1776 in process)

Technicaly you are correct, but the part that is commonly refered to as the "pan", is the just the section that creats the floor. |

the body is bolted to the pan.
the pans are welded to the chassis (tunnel in the middle, front bulkhead w/ beam etc, rear torsion bar tubes, trans mount, etc).
once you pull the body off the pan it becomes crystal clear how it all goes together.
lord garth. go here and look for floor pans. maybe a little more pricey than others, but they are the best.

Be sure to coat them with a good protective cover like www.rustbullet.com or www.por15.com That way the WONT rust ever again. Only takes a few hours to apply the stuff and its gets hard as nails. |

Got my 1/4 rear pans from AirCooled.net and they are nice and thick!!
A good .040 thick and a good brown protective coatin.
They are made by Klokkerholm, which is German??
They are like $70 each plus 36 to ship them.
They are 36" long and go all the way to infront of the seat pedistal. They have the seat tracks already welded in but no jack point or battery mounts.
I will roll with them as soon as I get them in. Paint first!! _________________ cars come and go, VW's live and breathe! |
