|
|
The door gap on my Ghia seems to be uneven at the back edge of the drivers side. It seems to be to open at the top and a little tight on the bottom. The front edge seems to be fine. What is the best way to correct this? Can I just grind the edge of the door where it's tight and stitch weld it back together were I grind so far that the skin separates from the door? What about the section that is to wide of a gap? Do I just live with it? Cut a slit in the panel behind the door, hammer the door frame closer and then reweld the slit closed? Or do I try to add to the edge of the door at this area? The door seems to be the original, but the front fender has been replaced. Any suggestions?[http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=210116][/img] |

I would make stitches along the trailing edge on the top of the door until you get the gap you want. Go slow, stitch & grind ... rinse, lather, repeat _________________ Beauty is in the eye of the key holder ... |

you can try to put shims between the body and pan at the rearmost body mount only(above the springplate). some cars were shimmed at the factory to correct door gaps. |

Thanks for the great ideas. I think the welding sounds like the ticket. I did measure the gap at the top last night and it's about .375"+ so I will need to add about .125". But what about the tight gap at the bottom? This area is almost touching the door frame. Should I just grind it down and stitch weld the door skin to the door as well the small remaining section of the door skin on the back side, or is there a better way? |

does the window line up correctly when its rolled up? if you weld the door gap you may still have a bad fitting window.
just something to think about. |
